Why Is The Print Titles Option In Page Setup:sheet Greyed Out?

I am trying to print the column labels on each of a 10 page list. When I go
to Page Setup, then the Sheet tab, the items under Print Titles are greyed
out. i.e. I can't enter a row for the "Rows to Repeat at Top" option.

Anyone know why? Can't find anything in the help file.

I have a printer installed and Ready.
I have tried changing to all different views (Normal, Page Layout, Page Break) before going to File > Print > Page Setup.
I have tried selecting one cell (and hitting esc a few times) and I have tried highlighting the entire sheet.
The worksheet isn't protected nor is it shared.

Every time I go to the Page Setup, Sheet tab, the following are all greyed out:
Print Area, Rows to Repeat at Top, Columns to Repeat at Left.
All other functionality in the Page Setup is unaffected.

Any idea of what I'm missing to be able to allow it to repeat rows at the top?

I have set an area to print which covers a few pages and I want them printed with the same row as a title. However, entering Print Preview - Page Setup - Sheet shows the section "Print Titles" greyed and I cannot select any row (nor columns).
What can be wrong with my set-up?

I am trying to use the "Print area" and "Print Title" selectors on the Sheet
Tab of Page Setup but they are greyed out. How can I make them active.

I have the same problem on two different computers each running Office 2000
Pro and one with a Windows 2000 Pro OS and the other with a Windows XP Pro

Any tips on how to rectify this would be greatly appreciated.

I have a spreadsheet that fits fine 1 page wide when I go to page setup and adjust the scalingto 63%. Normally I like to use the "Fit to Print 1 page wide" option but when I select that option the scaling adjusts to 39%.

I have gone out and deleted all columns to the right and all rows below the area that I want printed to make sure tehre isn't something out there that it is trying to print but it still reduces the size too much.

I have attached the file that I am tryingto format the printing.





I have a two page worksheet that I would like to print. There is a lot of information and data on page 1. I have put two pie charts below it that will print on page 2. I used the page break preview to make sure all of the data prints on page 1 and the graphs will print on page 2. However, because page 1 is scaled down to roughly 43%, it does the same to the graphs. So the graphs become very small on page two and only take up the top third of the page.

Is there a way to apply different options so that all of the data is scaled to fit on page 1 and a different and more appropriate scale ratio is applied to the 2nd page?

How can I create a macro button that will automatically set print "Page Setup" settings for me on the sheet I am in.

I have a database that starts on row 10 with header information in row 9 explaining the purpose of the data for each column. In rows 1 through 8 I have general information that when I print the database - I would want on the first printed page (as well as the beginning rows of the database) and have the remaining print pages be the remaining portions of the database but have the header row (row 9) at the top of each - like a header row.

I know how to goto FILE > PAGE SETUP > SHEET > ROWS TO REPEAT AT TOP: - but this will put row 9 at the top of ALL pages...which I want, but not on the first page.

Any suggestions? I'm ok with making a print button with a macro...but no idea where to begin with the vba code to do this.



I have a worksheet where I am repeating rows 1 and 2. I would like to turn this off, if possible, for the last page on the worksheet.

I have a fairly good understanding of vba code, but can't seem to find anything that will return the last page in the print area.

I know I can use:

ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintTitleRows = ""

How can I print an entire sheet without the columns and rows that go beyond the page margins being printed on separate pages?

My page setup is 8.5x11" landscape. The margins are as narrow as possible. My print area only includes the cells I need printed. I have 3 colums and 3 rows that print on separate pages. How can I shrink it to fit on one page?


I had an inventory worksheet (until someone deleted it), when I print the
sheets, on each page the first row has the names of each column

While looking at the speadsheet on the computer I see the above titles (and
yes the panes are frozen), as I scroll down the sheet to a page break there
are no titles. They only appear on the top row of each new printed sheet.

If this makes sense could you please tell me how to set it up again. I've
been going crazy trying to figure it out.I want each printed sheet to have
the title of each column.

I need a way to fix a print problem. When I go into File - Page Setup, and I
choose which rows to repeat at the top ($1:$5) and select which columns to
repeat at left ($A:$A), the rows at the top never print completely on pages 2
through the end. Only on the first page can I see the entire title and
subtitle. On the remaining pages they get cut off where Column B would
begin. Can I fix this?

I have a defined print area, A1:L134

I want it to print 3 pages, no more, no less.

I have the page setup, page tab set to fit to 1 page wide by 3 pages tall.

I have tried page breaks but the seem to do nothing.

I want rows 1-60 on page 1, 61-110 on page 2, and rows 111 - 134 on page 3.

How can this be acheived?

I have several worksheets formatted in exactly the same way as follows:

Col A - width 4
Col B - hidden
Col C - width 4
Col D - Width 108
Col E - Width 3
Col F - Width 11
Col G - Hidden
Col H - Width 11 & Empty

My print range should be Cols A:G (I have used page setup to set the
scaling to fit 1 page wide by [blank] pages tall, thus each sheet will
print as many pages as required depending on number of rows]

When I have the print range set to A:G only columns A:E show on the
print preview (and also on the actual print out) and when I make print
area A:F only A:C show on the print preview.

To get A:G printed I have to set the print area to A:H.

In all 3 of the examples above when I look at the print preview there
is a blank area on the right hand side of the page where the missing
columns SHOULD be but aren't... ie the size of the page seems to be
formatted correctly to include all the columns i want but they just
don't print unless 1 extra column is selected in the print area.

Has anyone out there experienced this problem before?

I am inserting page breaks to format my printing so I can get paragraphs onto a page (ie sets of info). I know how many lines there are on my printer but the other office printer has a different print area.

I can force Excel to print one page wide if I change the page setup to print 1 page wide and 10 pages long instead of 100% but then I will get a different number of lines per page than on my printer.

Fortunately my line heights are all the same so how do I count lines per page before formatting?

I do a lot of forms and contracts for my organization, and many times these will run more than one page. My problem is ensuring that they will print properly, with page breaks falling where they should, not knowing what type of printers my many users may be trying to output these on.

I've found that using the "Fit To" command in Page Setup - Scaling will work perfectly for a one page document, setting the output percentage as necessary for different conditions. But for multiple pages, let's say setting it for 1 page wide by 3 pages tall, I can no longer ensure where the page break will fall. I'm hoping there's something I'm missing that might fix this, because after all these years of development, I can't believe Excel doesn't handle this better.

Let's say I have that 1 page wide by 3 pages tall example. My normal routine would be to set the print area first, then go to Page Setup and set the 1 pages wide by 3 pages tall, then change the View to Page Break Preview. If I adjust any page break in that mode, and then go back to the Page Setup commands, the setting in the Scaling section have reverted to a fixed percentage. It seems that Excel will not scale for different printer characteristics and allow variable page breaks at the same time. Scaling and page breaks are linked.

Is this right? Is there no option? It seems awful limiting if this is the case.

One solution might be to set up a macro that defines each page and prints it separately. But I run the risk of having different percentage outputs if I do that, and if someone wants to print to a PDF it creates multiple files instead of a single one with multiple pages.

There's gotta be a better way, maybe someone has a good idea. Thanks in advance for any help.


Using Excel 2003 I am printing multiple sheets. I have a footer on every sheet that is in the format of: page # of total pages.

When I do a print preview page number and total number of pages looks correct on every page.

However when I actually print the file the total number of pages varies and some of the sheets have wildly incorrect total number of pages (i.e. 26 total pages instead of 16 and other variations).

In doing some searches in the message boards and yes my default print driver is the same as the the one I am actually using.

I have checked various page setup options all looks "safe".

The only thing I can think of is I am using PDF Creator as my print driver. Due to various reasons I have not had a chance to test with other print drivers except for doing Print Preview but not actually doing Print.

I would have thought that as PDF Creator from PDFforge http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator should work fine on this file as I do this all the time on other Excel files with the product. All it is doing is just capturing the print format output.

Any thoughts or ideas of something to check.

I will be doing more testing and report what I find, but would love to keep useing PDF Creator.




I have a worksheet that can be up to 100 pages in length. At the end of each week I must print the sheet for that week. I would like to put a hyperlink beside each page (just out of the print area) that will print just that page. I know i can use the FILE>PRINT>PAGE> # : # method, but i was hoping that some of you Excel Gurus would know a way to just click one link and just that page would print.

I want to add a hyperlink to another area in my Excel workbook.

On one sheet when I right click on text that I want to add the hyperlink to,
I don't get the hyperlink option. It has the following:

paste special
insert page break
reset all page breaks

clear contents
insert comment
format cells
set print area
reset print area
page setup

There is no hyperlink option. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This is an excel question as well as c# as i am producing an excel document using c# on Visual Studio 2008.

I am trying to get a title block as a footer to behave similar to excels 'print titles' (print titles on bottom of page rather than on the top). The footer title is a table (or group of cells), so cannot be simply added as footer text. If i was to add the title as cells on the bottom of each worksheet (not as a footer note), then when i insert rows the bottom title will move onto the next page, which is unsuitable.
Any ideas on this could help in my c# programming.

I have a workbook, which has numerous worksheets. On each worksheet is a screen print, not excel data but a CTRL+print Screen of another system. All are the same size. I want to print the whole workbook, each worksheet on one page, but at the moment the only way I know how to do this is to go into each worksheet and go File>Page Setup>Fit to 1 page tall by 1 page wide etc... is there a way to apply this change to the whole workbook, without going through each worksheet one by one??


I have the following error when I try to print multiple sheets: "print titles must be contiguous and complete row or columns". I don't have any printing headers or footers, no rows or columns to repeat at top or left. The only modification I made is the printing area which is the same on all of my 100 sheets. I do not get this error if I try to print one sheet at the time.

I have made a form on a spreadsheet that is fit to only one page. But when it goes to print, it prints 50 pages of stuff that isn't needed. Since this is going to be used by other people is there a way to either:

1. No matter what, everytime they try print, it will only print the first page of sheet 1?

2. Disable printing all together and force them to use a button that will print the first page only.

I've tried playing around with

Why won't the gridlines print if I have selected the first two rows on a page to print as titles? The autofill is OFF.
