Inserting Rows Crashing Excel |
Inserting Rows Crashing Excel - Excel |
|
I created three spreadsheets with pivot tables and macro's and tables in excel 2007. Then my computer crashed, so I has to re-install Windows and Excel.
The problem now is that if I insert a row anywhere in any of the spreadsheets, Excel either takes a really, really long time (three or four minutes) to insert the row, or it just crashes and I have to restart.
I can't understand what's causing the crash, I tried disabling macros, deleting certain tables, but it doesn't help. Is this a recognized problem? I even tried re-installing Excel - no good.
I have to insert rows from one spreadsheet to another so this is becoming a real issue, a five minute job is taking an hour when I include time to recover from crashes etc.
Thanks for your help,

We have a client who will pay using the 1/4, 1/2/ and 3/4 of an hour increments as follows:
From the hour mark to 6 minutes = 0 time paid
Over 7 minutes to 15 minutes = 1/4 hour 15
16 minutes to 30 minutes = 1/2 hour 30
30 minutes to 45 minutes = 3/4 hour 45
46 minutes to 60 minutes = one hour.
They work on shifts and the operation is 24 hours. Each gets 30 minutes for breaks which is not paid. Pay is biweekly and overtime is anything over 40 hours. Currently, the template we are using looks like this (sorry, I could not figure out how to paste it so you can see it in Excel layout):
WEEK 1 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

I am very new to Excel and need help creating a formula that will allow us to calculate this timesheet? I am in desperate need for help.
Thanks..
I need to insert 5 blank rows repeatedly between every existing data rows
for approximately 300 rows.
If I go about doing the repeat short-cut "Control+Y", it just repeats
inserting ONE row only between the consecutive data row.
Is there some command, which helps me highlight all the rows & allows me to
insert 5 blank rows between every consecutive existing data row?
Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Excel showing "Not Responding" and is grayed out. I've tried to use Task Manager to stop the application, but as soon as open up Excel it goes right back to opening the spreadsheets and starts calculating again. I have spreadsheets saved, so don't have to recover.

worksheet. The first column of the table is a list of numbers. I tried
converting the table into text with manual line breaks and tab stops to
divide columns and rows, but that didn't solve my problem.
Excel pastes the data into several rows. When I try to merge them, I
get a warning that the selection contains multiple data values, and
merging into one cell keeps the upper-left most data only.
What I tried that didn't work:
* Formatting the Excel cells as text before pasting the data.
* The various options for "Paste Special." The closest I got was
inserting the table as a Document Object, which could be a workaround,
I guess.
What I am saving for when all else fails:
* The obvious solution of copying row by row into one Excel cell.
The data in the table is information about my dad's medications. I
would like to have reference charts of how to identify the strength of
each tablet by its color and markings. I got the info from the
manufacturers' websites and entered it into tables in Word, which I
would like to copy into a more comprehensive file I am creating in
Excel. The first column of each table is the strength of the tablet,
entered as 1 mg., 2 mg., etc. The subsequent columns describe the
shape, color, and markings. There are 3 tables, each with about 4-5
rows.
Is there a way to copy each one - whether as a table or as text - into
a single Excel cell without losing data?
Many thanks.
I have been tasked with introducing userforms into an excel sheet and tbh I'm quite amazed that excel has this capability of adding userforms to excel sheets.
Anyway, I have 2 columns of data in an excel sheet and I wish to add this to a userform so that the userform displays the 2 columns beside each other with headings, like a table. The user should then be able to select a particular row and insert it into the specified cell.
I would also like the user to select a row on the table and then be able to bring up another table depending on the row selected...basically so that the user can draw deeper into the information that they require.
I have an example excel sheet where I have 2 sheets. One sheet is the user entry sheet called User Entry Screen. the next sheet is the tables sheet where my tables are held. Once the user selects the cell shown in the example sheet, it should then bring up the user form. the user then, depending on which item clicked, then gets shown the next window with a table and info on it. then user should then be able to select an item and the cells on the user entry screen would then get populated.
Personally I think this is a really tricky challenge and any help with doing this would be extremely appreciated.
I'll post up further comments as I am trying to work my way through it!
Thanks,
Jag
I have a sheet with raw data a sheet with pivot tables a sheet with a dashboard and a simple macro
I don't have any #REF cells either.
Someone has any idea of what could be the problem?

Basically I have created a spreadsheet with several columns, but I have one column that lists the shirt size (YS, YM, YL, AS, AM, AL, XL, 2X, 3X) of each person. Is there a formula that I can create that will tabulate the number of sizes (i.e. AS=2, AM=7, etc.)?
In previous years I made a column for each size, and simply placed a "1" in the correct column, and had excel just add the 1's from each column. However, that takes more time and space. I was hoping to streamline it this time around.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, doug
As the title goes this is as simple as it gets. The macro worked good when I was using excel 2003 but now that I have 2007 everything works for except the resizing (Picture.Width & Picture. Height).
Code:
Sub AddImage() Dim strPath As String Dim strFile As String Dim Picture As Object Dim Response As String Dim C As Range strPath = "C:\\Photos\" For Each C In Range("A1", Range("A65536").End(xlUp)) If C 0 Then With C.Offset(0, 1) Set Picture = Nothing On Error Resume Next Set Picture = Sheets("Raw Pix").Pictures.Insert(strPath & C.Value & ".jpg") Picture.Top = .Top Picture.Left = .Left Picture.LockAspectRatio = msoTrue Picture.Width = 157 Picture.Height = 138 End With End If NextC: Next C End Sub
I have tried to record some macros while I am resizing the pictures but to no avail the macros are blank.
Please help
Thanks!
I've had a long search through your pages to see if this question has been answered before but having browsed through about 50 pages worth of threads I couldn't see anything, but if I am repeating prior information I do apologise.
I've written a macro that is relatively simple. It just takes some information in one format, rearranges it, adds some formatting and performs some calculations. Nothing incredibly fancy but it works fine on my computer.
Now, I need to share this macro with some other people, so basically I've just sent that excel file on to the people that need to use it. Should be fine and in most cases it is, however there is one user who although they can open the file, can't seem to get the macro to run properly.
It seems to get a small way through the macro but then stop with no error messages or any sign that it hasn't completed properly.
I have checked Macro Security level and that is the same as mine, Tools - Add-Ins is the same, In Visual Basic, Tools - References is the same as mine. It is the same Operating system and the same version of Excel.
I have even signed into this person's computer as myself (it's a big company network thing) and tried to run the macro and it works fine, so there is nothing wrong with the hardware.
I've googled and searched and tried everything I can think of but I'm no closer to solving this problem, so if anyone has read through this wall of text and can come up with a possible solution, that would be greatly appreciated to save me from tearing ALL my hair out!
Thanks very much for your time.
Cell B5: start time: 4:15 formatted as 4:15:00 am
Cell B6: finish time: 6:15 formatted as 6:15:00 am
Cell B7: total time: 2:00 formula in cell: =TEXT(B6-B5,"h:mm")
Cell B8: total batches processed: 22 (this is entered manually)
Cell B9: batches per hour: formula in cell: =B8/TEXT(B7,"h")
as long as I have this formula in cell B9 the answer comes out correct which should be 11 per hour.
If the formula in B9 is B8/B7, the answer is 264.0, Is this because of the way excel is reading the total time or the total time is formatted as a time, not an actual number? Is this the correct way to solve the problem?
answer should be 11 per hour.
I have a dillemma here,
I have to create a schedule which incorporates lunches automatically (either half hour or 1-hour lunches, depending on the circumstances).
The schedule only has time in and time out, but I need excel to automatically deduct the lunch break depending on the circumstance:
If you worked less than 6 hours = no lunch
If you worked more than 6 hours, but less than or equal to 8 hours = 0.5 hour lunch
If you worked more than 8 hours = 1 hour lunch
I am assuming the formula for this will be really long, but I have looked online everywhere and have not found ONE formula for it. I can't put lunch breaks seperately, so all I have to work with is Time in/out.
Also, I wouldn't be able to use military time, so I don't know how excel can assume that time in is in the morning, and time out is in teh evening and/or half-day.
If someone can help it would be greatlyyyy appreciated
We will be building 8 "widgets" a day.
We will work 10 hours a day.
There is a 20 minute break at 9:20 am.
Production shuts down for lunch 30 minutes for lunch at 12:30.
Production starts at 6:00 am.
Here is what I can do.
Production cycle time = (10*60)-30/8 or 71.25 minutes
If we start at 6:00 am, the first scheduled cycle completion time = TIME(6,0,0+71.25/1440)
My problem is when I am trying to use a logical "IF' statement to account for the 20 minute break or lunch and still calculate the end of each cycle time through the day I receive a number of error messages.
This is the formula I am trying to make work. I have the cell the formula is in, formatted with a "mm,ss" format.
=(IF(D4+G1/1440>9:20,(D4+G1)/24,(D4+G1+15)/1440))
I have included an attachment to help (a picture is worth a thousand words).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have bought a number of books in an attempt to figure this out, and I am still stumped
For example, suppose you have tables of data on 3 different tabs, all having the same headings. Suppose one of the headings is "gender". If you apply a filter to the table on Sheet 1, to only show the rows containing the word "female", is it possible to have the tables on Sheets 2 and 3 automatically update to only show the "female" rows? Or would you have to manually update the filter criteria in Sheets 2 and 3?
I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance for any help.
Can VLOOKUP be used on pivot tables? If so, is there any special syntax I need to use?
Thanks
Does anyone know of a way to unhide this macro?
Thanks!
Thanks in advance.
I've been having a strange problem lately. I have a fairly lengthy macro that works perfectly most of the time. Occasionally it will run as expected but as soon as the macro ends, excel becomes unresponsive to mouse-clicks. When I click anywhere (trying to select a cell, or an excel menu item...clicking anywhere in excel) I'll get the a 'ding' system sound and nothing will happen. BUT, if I use the keyboard arrow keys, I can see that the active cell selection moves accordingly. Then it gets really strange - when I have a cell highlighted and press any key to input text, it gets duplicated. So if I press "s' it will input "ss" into the cell, and then when I press enter it will auto-move to the next cell down, but nothing ends up getting saved into the previous cell.
I don't understand what's going on at all. I can't think of anything in my macro that would have these kinds of effects. I've made sure that screenupdating is turned back on at the end of every procedure. If I go into the VBE, I can manually run procedures and they all work fine. The only way I've been able to get back to normal is by force closing excel altogether and re-opening. Any ideas?

Still having trouble, and the same thing is happening with this workbook on two different computers, so I don't think it's a hardware, or OS specific issue. When it gets locked up like this, I can still do anything in the VBE (edits cells, run macros, etc.) with no problems. If I'm in the excel window, I can click alt on the keyboard and the shortcut keys for the menu come up, but I can't go deeper than that by clicking the letter shortcuts, they do nothing. If I use the delete key to delete the contents of a cell, then it gets deleted. But if I type anything else (numbers, letters, or symbols) then it types 2 instances of the key every time, yet when I hit enter, nothing changes in the cell. I also can't really bring focus to the excel window if something else (ie. the VBE) is on top of it, clicking into the excel window just gives the little system 'ding' sound and nothing happens.
If I hit the save button in the VBE (since I can't click anything in the excel window), then it seems to snap out of it and go back to normal. I tried searching for anything simmilar to this and can't find anything...
Any help would be much appreciated. This is driving me nuts!
