I have this formula to populate the worksheet's name into a cell.
= cell("filename")
it works, but if I switch worksheets, the previous value stays the same.it seems the =cell("filename") is not updating when I switch to the sheet.
or am I missing something?
Is there an easier way to define a worksheet's name ( either formula or custom function? )

Make sense? I'm a bit confused myself. Maybe just a list of basic workbook-switching techniques or commands would be useful.

Found the following code and it gets me close, but it copies the cell references, not the values. It also allows me to specify the file name from a cell reference.
I want the new workbook file to simply be saved, not opened, and a message box to display stating where the file was saved (will always be in the same location on the LAN).
What modifications do I make to this to get this to work per above requirements?
Sub CopyMe()
Dim SaveMeAs As String
SaveMeAs = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("B2").Text
Sheets("Sheet3").Copy
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:\My Documents\" & SaveMeAs
End Sub
I need to have a cell on Sheet2 display the TEXT from a cell on Sheet1, is his possible??
Example:
Sheet1, Cell A1 contains a clients name and I would like to have Sheet2, Sheet3, Sheet4 etc... Display that clients name in a cell of my choosing (could be a different cell on each Sheet) automatically after entering it once on Sheet1, cell A1.
I thought this was possible but I can't seem to figure it out. I haven't done any real Excel work in quite a long time but I thought I had done this before a long time ago!! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance...
P.S. If I use autosum to do this it just displays the number 0, obviously, since it is trying to add numbers...
I uploaded a copy of the spreadsheet, What I would like to happen is have the text from Sheet1,D4 automatically be placed in Sheet2,A1 and Sheet3, B2. Hope this helps

I dont want it to actually make the save though as I want the user to have the chance to check that the save location is correct and the option to change the filename if required.
Cheers.
I am trying to reference a cell on another worksheet, the cell is formatted to be a date. when i put in the following formula =Sheet2!A1 and i don't input a date into A1 on sheet 2 the cell containing the formula shows the date 00/01/1900, is there any way of stopping this showing, ideally the cell would be blank until I inputted a date into A1 on sheet 2
Any help would be very much appreciated
I'm trying to write a macro which prints to PDF and saves the file name as the contents of a cell. I've been looking through all the posts currently on this forum to get something working. I'm using the following code -
Sub PrintPDF()
Filename = "C:\Documents and Settings\samb\My Documents\" & ActiveSheet.Range("Z1").Value
SendKeys Filename & "{ENTER}", False
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:=1, ActivePrinter:= _
"Adobe PDF:", Collate:=True
End Sub
The macro prints to PDF, but then it stops at the Save As stage, where I have to manually enter the name of the file and click Save. I want the macro to automatically name the file with the contents of cell Z1. I then want it to then automatically press enter. Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Any help would be much appreciated!
I want to combine data from several worksheets into one worksheet.
For example, I have data in Sheet1 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet2 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet3 (Columns A,B,C) all with varying amounts of rows. (All the rows contain text data).
I need to combine all of the data from the 3 sheets into a single sheet, Sheet4 (Columns A,B,C), eliminating the empty rows.
I've been looking into this for a while, and can't find anything that really helps. Anyone got any pointers of what to look into?
Any help will be beautiful.
Cheers
triangle. I copied it to create a new data set and used find &
replace to change the worksheet references to the new ones.
The cells still contain the result of the old formula referring to the
previous worksheets. The only way I can get the formula to return the
correct result is to edit (F2) each cell and press enter. Calc now
(F9) does nothing.
I've seen this before, but this time, I need to calculate many
thousands of cells and don't have time for this workaround.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

On the attached timesheet there are columns IN, OUT, IN,OUT
The lunch time is worked out by deducting 'C8 from C9' and this works fine when all 'IN, OUT' cells are filled in but for some reason when just the first two cells are filled in it gives a -12 hour answer.
looking at cell 'C11 ' in the attached worksheet, I currently have the formula
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9-C8)) The reason for this is to make it look tidy by having blank cells until a calculation is needed,, My problem is, If someone just comes in for the morning one day for instance 8am to 12 noon then they won't have lunch, but C11 will show -12:00
Can I put another formula into C11 to tell it not to deduct C8 from C9 until a time is put into C9.
The following is the sort of thing (many variations) I have been trying but because I'm hopeless at formulas I'm not having any success
Thanks
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9-C8))OR,IF(C9,ISBLANK,"",SUM(C9-C8)
Sheet 1 is the master sheet "Team Stats". There will be an undetermined number of individual worksheets to accomodate new staff.
Each worksheet will be identical, using columns A-I with row 1 having the headings:
Date, Name, Reference, Value, Price, Age, Purchased?, Destination, Add. Products (the last 3 columns will have a drop-down list which will be used to enter data into the cell).
There will be a varying number of rows in each of the individual sheets.
If possible I would like the macro to run every time data is entered into one of the individual worksheets. If this is not then it would be fien to update every time the workbook is opened.
If anyone can help it would really cut down the time I spend collating these stats every day!
ActiveSheet.ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, Filename:=Range("H10").Value & Format(Date, "mmdd")
This saves it as the correct cell value + the date, but it saves it to my documents. I need it to save to a shared folder on a network drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS
This macro is amazingly straight-forward:
Public Sub SaveAsA1()
ThisFile = Range("A1").Value
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=ThisFile
End Sub
I'm totally lost on this "amazingly straight-forward" macro!!!! Could someone help if I tell you the SAVE location? It's T:\COMMISSIONING\IJT\TIMELOG project\Staff#1. I'm just not certain what value I'm replacing in the Macro above.
Any help appreciated..
So I am at work workin on this report and I need a function that will make Excel automatically insert the today's date in a cell (let's say D90) when I fill the content of another cell (for example C90) and the that will be inserted will never change. I tried to use the =TODAY( ) function but it keeps updating the date in the cell to the current date if i reopen the worksheet 2 days later. I need the cell to keep in the cell the date of the day when I filled in the content of cell C90 and do not updated it every time i open the document to the actual date.. Thanks in advance!!
the SUMIF function to sum only the cells in the range that are colored. Can
this be done? Can I enter something in the "criteria" part of the formula
that can do this?
=SUMIF(D3:D13,"criteria",D3:D13)
I also tried to use the CELL function's color feature, but I couldn't get it
to work right. I don't know how to get Excel to recognize if a cell is
colored in a formula.
=CELL("color",cell)
It might just be that I don't know what this means in Help:
"color" --> 1 if the cell is formatted in color for negative values;
otherwise returns 0 (zero).
Can anyone help?
I have entered the following formula in to a cell: =IF(S3<R3,"DOWN","UP") it works however i want to replace the word Down and up with the relevant arrows symbol. How do i do this?
Thanks
I am hoping for some assistance. Here is what I have....
I am trying to get counts of certain values.
This is in the same workbook but different sheets.
On sheet 1 is where my formula lies. In a cell, I want it to look at sheet 2 column B and look for instances of "A", then I want it to look in the same row it found "A" and look at the value in column "N" and evaluate if there is an amount. If there isn't skip it and don't count it, if there is a value count it if it falls within a given range.
An example of the formula is below...what am I missing?
=COUNTIF(Sheet2!B:B,(VLOOKUP(A,Sheet2!B:N,13,FALSE)=0:500))
=COUNTIF(Sheet2!B:B,(VLOOKUP(A,Sheet2!B:N,13,FALSE)=501:1000))
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
I am working on a worksheet, and would like to have an entire row transferred to another worksheet based upon a certain cell's value.
Having searched through the many solved threads on this site, I attempted to customize some of the code to my worksheet. Not being proficient in Macro/VBA, I failed. I figured I would ask for help, and see if anyone can provide what I am looking for.
Basically, I am attempting to construct a "work in process" file, and would like all completed work to be deleted from the work in process sheet, and transferred to a sheet that contains a running list of all work completed.
Attached is an example of what I am working on. I would like Column Q (Status) to determine if a row can be moved to a sheet that contains the list of all work completed, and eliminated from the original sheet. Once Status is updated to "Complete", it would be helpful to be able to run a macro/click a button that would perform the transfer.
Can anyone assist?
Thanks!
I am new to using Excel and I am not very computer literate. I am looking for some help with a spreadsheet I am making. Here is the problem:
I have a column of 14 numbers in cells A1 to A14. If all of these values are less than 2%, I would like a "Pass" to display in cell B1. If any of these values are greater than 2% I would like a "Fail" to display in cell B1.
I have got a formula that works for a single cell but I can't figure out how to get it to apply to more than one cell. For example, I have entered =IF(A1<2,"Pass","Fail") in cell B1. Now if the value I enter in A1 is less than 2, it shows a "Pass", and if the value in A1 is greater than 2 it shows a "Fail" in cell B1. How can I get this to apply to all of the cells from A1 to A14?
If somebody could help me out that would be great.
Thanks,
Randy
I have two worksheets and wish to copy rows from worksheet 1 to worksheet 2 if a condition is met in one of the cells within that row.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks
Perhaps a better solution is to use a workaround that relies on the HYPERLINK function to refer to whatever is selected in the drop-down list. For instance, if you have your data validation drop-down list in cell A1, then you might put the following formula in cell B1:
=HYPERLINK(A1, "Goto Link")
The solution directly above provides exactly what I am looking for
in the field where I write the formula, but it fails to hyperlink.
I have created a drop down list and linked each one of them to a
specific worksheet. When I select them individually they link to
appropriate worksheet. But when I select them in the drop down
list I receive the following error when I select the Hyperlink in
cell B1 as directed above.
"Cannot open the specified file"
Any thoughts?
