Add Apostrophe To Field

In order to import data into an accounting program, the account number has to be formatted with an apostrophe at the front. I've tried formatting as text. I've tried ="'"&a1.
Other than manually adding it to each number, is there any way to add the apostrophe?

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have been using excel for about 3 years. I have learned alot but still can not figure out how to make numbers add up in one box like a running total. Meaning, If I have a list and in the list is one cell for each item say like cell a1 is for a can of coke and cell a2 is for a car tire and so on,and i want to keep a running total by adding a number to cell a1 or a2 like say "3 i.e. 3 tires or cans of coke" and later that day i come back and need to add 2 more ......so i want to be able to just click on the cell a1 or a2 and enter the number 2 and the cell would add the number in it to the number im adding to it to show a result of 5 tires or whatever. I am sorry If i am not asking the question in an understandable manor but its the best way I can think to ask it.lol anyways, any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

I know that you can do PASTE > VALUES in order to keep your conditional formatting on an existing sheet, but sadly the people in my office are prone to not understanding this ("It's a bit technical") and so they just pasting blocks of text from elsewhere and lose it all.....

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to maintain the formatting when people just do a traditional C&P ?

Thanks

How do I calculate the number of batches per hour? Here's what I have so far:

Cell B5: start time: 4:15 formatted as 4:15:00 am
Cell B6: finish time: 6:15 formatted as 6:15:00 am
Cell B7: total time: 2:00 formula in cell: =TEXT(B6-B5,"h:mm")
Cell B8: total batches processed: 22 (this is entered manually)
Cell B9: batches per hour: formula in cell: =B8/TEXT(B7,"h")

as long as I have this formula in cell B9 the answer comes out correct which should be 11 per hour.
If the formula in B9 is B8/B7, the answer is 264.0, Is this because of the way excel is reading the total time or the total time is formatted as a time, not an actual number? Is this the correct way to solve the problem?
answer should be 11 per hour.

Hello ,

Here is my issue:

I have a list of SKUs in Excel and I need to add one same word to 500 cells that have pre-existing text in the cells. See example below:

1) List of SKU's in cells:

34
35
39
55

2) text that needs to be added IN FRONT of every number:

DF

So the result would be:

DF34
DF35
DF39
etc.

How do I do that in a formula and not manually? I found another similar thread and I understand how to do it from the instructions there but the same text goes on the back and the result is: 34DF but I need it to be like: DF34.

I am using Office 2007 for mac.

Thank you for the help,
Chris

I am trying to figure out how to write a formula to figure out production cycle time.
We will be building 8 "widgets" a day.
We will work 10 hours a day.
There is a 20 minute break at 9:20 am.
Production shuts down for lunch 30 minutes for lunch at 12:30.
Production starts at 6:00 am.
Here is what I can do.
Production cycle time = (10*60)-30/8 or 71.25 minutes
If we start at 6:00 am, the first scheduled cycle completion time = TIME(6,0,0+71.25/1440)

My problem is when I am trying to use a logical "IF' statement to account for the 20 minute break or lunch and still calculate the end of each cycle time through the day I receive a number of error messages.
This is the formula I am trying to make work. I have the cell the formula is in, formatted with a "mm,ss" format.
=(IF(D4+G1/1440>9:20,(D4+G1)/24,(D4+G1+15)/1440))
I have included an attachment to help (a picture is worth a thousand words).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have bought a number of books in an attempt to figure this out, and I am still stumped

I have a large spreadsheet in Excel 2007. I am converting it to a .csv file to import in to another program. I need to delete all commas from all data.

When I try to replace all commas (with nothing or with another character), I get the error message "The formula you typed contains an error."

I have tried various formats (text, general, etc.) and various file types (.xls,.xlsx, .csv) and still get the same error.

Hi there, I have a string of numbers and I would like to add zeros to the end of it.

For example my numbers are formatted like this: 1234 and I would like to add zeros to the end so it looks like this: 123400 (no decimal).

I would do it manually but I have a column of over 2000 different numbers.

Thanks for your help, you guys are great!

I have been using Excel (XP) to make a text chart for several months. Some of
my text entries are rather lengthy. The past two weeks these lengthy entries
are showing up as pound signs (#########) when I click off the cell. I know
the text will fit in the cell, and the problem isn't solved by making the
cell bigger or using a little bit less text. I have the cells formatted as
"text" and "wrap to fit". I have printed the pages and the printed version
also has pound signs. I just want my text to show up!

I am creating a basic accounting spreadsheet and I ask for assistance to automate data entry posts. I would like to have entries that are entered in the general journal automatically post to the corresponding ledger accounts. The entries need to remain in chronological order. Relative cell referencing will not work because the rows in the ledgers will not correlate to the rows in the journal because the journal but the entries in the ledger need to input on the next available row in that ledger account. Additionally, as the number of entries increase, can the ledger accounts add a new row?

Attached is a very simple example with three transactions. I have included an end state view in the ledger accounts tab.

Good afternoon,

Is there a way to enter a colon into a standard number to create a value that can be formatted into a 24 hour time value ?

eg a time is listed as 1345 with a general number format, and I want it returned as 13:45 witha custom format of hh:mm.

Other than creating a table and using a vlookup function, I am hoping there is a better way?

Darren

Is it possible to import a single text file into Excel, splitting the incoming data across multiple worksheets rather than a single worksheet? Each each row on the text file would be evaluated by the value in one of it's "columns" and written to the appropriate worksheet. The file is "!" delimited and has 11 columns for each row.

Currently, I import the file into one worksheet and cut/paste the rows manually into new worksheets/tabs. The files are very large, sometimes exceeding the 65,536 row limit, which I could avoid if the data was split out coming in.

Any help anyone could provide would be WONDERFUL. Thanks!

Hi there,

I have a spreadsheet with some cells setup with a drop-down list containing
Y, N or N/A

This is being used on a TabletPC but if I make a mistake or need to change
back to a blank field I have to invoke the soft keyboard, activate the cell
and hit backspace then close the soft keyboard - quite a long-winded
procedure just to change an incorrect choice!

What I would like to do is add a blank to the list so if I have to revert
back to a blank I can just use the stylus to choose a blank from the chooser
list.

How do I add the option of inputting a blank from the Data Validation List
bearing in mind I am using the Data Validation Source box for entering my
choices directly and not specifying a range of cells?

I have tried adding "" and even a space to no avail.

Although not a betting man I would wager there is a simple 'fix' for this
but things are only simple if you know how in the first instance! ;^)

Hello, I'm trying to count the number of times a name appears across multiple worksheets but I can't seem to figure it out.

I have 6 sheets to count and all the names are in column A (from A1:A100) on each sheet. The names are not in a particular order.

On sheet 7 I want to have a cell beside each persons name that counts the number of times their name appeared on the other 6 sheets.

For example Sheet 7 (called total) would have

Joe 5 (where 5 is the outcome of the formula I'm looking for to count all the times "Joe" appears on sheets 1-6).

I have it counting per sheet with =COUNTIF(A1:A130,"name") but this is not quite what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Edit: I am using Excel 2007 w/ windows XP

I saw two threads in this forum that asked this question, with no good answer. I am posting this solution for anybody still struggling with this.

The question:
How can you prevent a cell's contents from overflowing into the next cell?

Of course, you can make the column wider or turn on text wrapping, but you might not want to. Each of those solutions can mess up the layout of your sheet. You may just want to truncate the value.

Some people have suggested putting a space in the next cell. This is unnecessary, a pain in the but, and will mess up any ISBLANK type formulas, among other things.

The solution:
Select the cells in question and turn on text wrapping (Format>Cells>Alignment>Wrap Text).
Now select the row(s) in question and manually set the row height, by right clicking the row number and selecting "Row Height". Check the height of an adjacent row for a good value.

Your cells will now not spill over either horizontally or vertically. They will simply truncate anything that doesn't fit.

Be careful now, because parts of your data may be hidden. This can cause its own set of problems if one or two digits are neatly hidden away. Think ahead if other people might be using this sheet, and not be expecting to have some data hidden.

Tested in Excel 2002

Peace to you all
I'm still new here but after I searched the forum I found great work done
for the needy like me.
So I'm so hopeful
I'm concerned with making a timetable for my school which we used to do it manually
I need a code to distribute each teacher timetable with the following basis:
the number of classes_ the teacher is assinged to work with_multiplied by the number of periods ( which is changeable ).
e.g ; Teacher 1 has 2 classes (1-1 &1-2). Each class should be visited 9 timea a week.
So Teacher 1 should work 18 periods a week
the distribution I need 'd look like the example in Sheet("timetable")
Please don't let me down
any help 'd be greately appreciated

Hi,

Im working with a large data spreadsheet that has Yes and No answers in different columns. There are blanks within the selection too.
I need to calculate only the Yes.
I have tried using the filters in the Pivot Table field list and they are not working.
So now i'm trying to add a COUNTIF formula in the Calculated Fields section.
The formula I'm using is =Countif('Time limit extension'="yes") and i get the answer "too few."
What should I be using in the formula to get the calculated field to work? I have search the whole forum and I haven't found an answer that can help me.

Please HELP!!!

I have cells in a column, some colored yellow, some not. I am trying to use
the SUMIF function to sum only the cells in the range that are colored. Can
this be done? Can I enter something in the "criteria" part of the formula
that can do this?

=SUMIF(D3:D13,"criteria",D3:D13)

I also tried to use the CELL function's color feature, but I couldn't get it
to work right. I don't know how to get Excel to recognize if a cell is
colored in a formula.
=CELL("color",cell)

It might just be that I don't know what this means in Help:

"color" --> 1 if the cell is formatted in color for negative values;
otherwise returns 0 (zero).

Can anyone help?

I have set a VLOOKUP formula to match account numbers. How ever I have to
click double click on the cell before the formula recognises the account
number. I have to do this for each cell. I have tried different formats. It
is not saving me that much time.

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a basic formula to clear out unwanted cells. Basically, if the cell is not equal a number, I'd like it to be cleared of any information. I would rather not use a space, because I have text that is overlapping between cells and would like it to be legible.

Here's the basic formula:

=if(A1>0, A1, ???)

Any help would be great. Thanks!
