Schedule Conflict Problem

I've posted this question in another forum but with no luck so far. Here's to hoping someone here can help me work through this problem.

I'm trying to accomplish 4 different things with my spreadsheet.
The first two sheets in the workbook are job schedules (House A & House B). For each job, there are required tasks that have assigned dates, personnel and billing code.

The next sheet is the conflict report. I want this sheet to automatically return all conflicts with respect to personnel and/or billing codes. For instance, if a person is scheduled to work two or more tasks at the same time, I want to know it. I also want to know if a billing code is being used during the same time period. For the actual data output on this sheet, I would want to see the personnel and/or code along with the scheduled events that are causing the conflict.

The next three sheets are calendars. Each is a little different in terms of what I would like to see. For all three, I want to type in a date and have the calendar automatically update with the following 30 days (or however many will fit in the pre-determined size of the calendar).

For the project calendar, I want to see a rollup of all the jobs scheduled. Ideally, I would want it displayed as a color coded cell.

For the job calendar, I would like to have a drop down menu where I select which job I want to view (from all the available jobs - in the example it is House A and House B) and have the calendar display all the activities that are occuring during the time frame specified.

For the personnel calendar, I would like to have the option to select as many (or as few) personnel as I would like (from all available personnel) and have the calendar display all the days each individual is working. Again, this is probably best handled with color coding.

I realize this might not make much sense, so just let me know and I will hopefully clarify.

I am trying to write a formula that uses both an if statement and a vlookup statement.

It's for a house cleaning price list, with two sets of prices. I want the formula to say if the value in E7 is R, i want to lookup the value for the house in the second column. If the value in the cell is anything else, i want to lookup the value for the house in the third column.

So in sense, my formula should look like =IF (E7=1,"=VLOOKUP(A10,'Clean Prices'!$A$2:$C$58,2,FALSE)","=VLOOKUP(A10,'Clean Prices'!$A$2:$C$58,3,FALSE)")

But it doesn't work. Is it possible to nest a vlookup in an if statement?


I'm trying to format a worksheet to show how many days overdue certain tasks are, and running into a couple of issues. The sheet is set up with Due Dates in Column A, Days Overdue in Column B, and Date Completed in Column C. My first thought was just to use as simple a formula as possible in Column B =Today()-A2. This worked alright for tasks that already had Due Dates assigned, but if Column A was blank I'd get a high number in Column B. I also realized that tasks will continue to show as overdue even after I enter the completed-on date in Column C. Is there a relatively simple way to tackle this formula? Thanks in advance for suggestions. (I've attached an example with the column headings I want to use.)

I need some help in this:

In a excel workbook when I copy a worksheet (to duplicate with other name) there is always a name conflict and so I have to say yes (maintain the name) or say no (and excel ask for other names) many times (sometimes more than 50 times pressing the enter button. Its possible to disable this feature?

I have never really used VBA and so am completely stuck at this problem. I need to create a macro which auto-populates a master worksheet from the individual user sheets in a shared workbook.

Sheet 1 is the master sheet "Team Stats". There will be an undetermined number of individual worksheets to accomodate new staff.

Each worksheet will be identical, using columns A-I with row 1 having the headings:

Date, Name, Reference, Value, Price, Age, Purchased?, Destination, Add. Products (the last 3 columns will have a drop-down list which will be used to enter data into the cell).

There will be a varying number of rows in each of the individual sheets.

If possible I would like the macro to run every time data is entered into one of the individual worksheets. If this is not then it would be fien to update every time the workbook is opened.

If anyone can help it would really cut down the time I spend collating these stats every day!


I'm trying to come up with a solution to calculate the man hours and days worked over multiple sheets.

I have a file that has 8 sheets. the first seven sheets are the days of the week and the 8th sheet is where I want to calculate the hours.

The days of the week consists of "Name" "Date" Hours"

The 8th sheet consists of "Name", "Days of the week in their own column (7 columns in total)", "Total Hours" and "Total Days Worked"

Now... each day is always a different group and what I'm hoping for is to create a formula that can grab each name with their hours and throw them into the 8th sheet. So when the end of the week is done I have all the Employees weekly hours and days worked all finished.

I hope this makes sense. This file is to track about 100 employees that are on a rotational work schedule.

This is probably an easy question for most of you, but it's killing me. I tried searching before I posted this, but the suggestions given didn't seem to work for me.

I need to look up data from a cell on one Excel sheet, compare it to a list on a 2nd sheet and when they equal, take a value from a different column on the 2nd sheet and drop it back on the 1st sheet. Since that's a horrible explanation, let me try explaining it this way:

Sheet 1
Column A has a long list of code type 1s
Column E has a long list of code type 2s

Sheet 2
Cell C2 has code 1
Cell E2 needs code 2

I know it should take an index/match function, but nothing I try is working. What I'm trying is the following formula in Cell E2 of sheet 2:

=INDEX('Sheet 1'!A:A,MATCH(C2,'Sheet 1"!E:E,0),5)

But all I get is no result. What's driving me bonkers is that if I copy everything over to a single sheet, that formula works fine.

I am trying to calculate our On Time Delivery. I want this as a simple percentage of jobs. I have got this running in the following way:

Column M - Estimated Delivery dates
Column N - Actual Delivery dates
Column O - =IF(SUM(M2-N2)>0,1,0)

Then I have calculated On Time Delivery as: =SUM((SUM(O2:O252))/(COUNTA(N2:N252)))

This seems to work fine. My problem is, if we enter a date in Estimated without a corresponding Actual date, the formula for Column O fills out anyway and improves our On Time Delivery Percentage. How can I set this up so that the formula doesn't calculate if there is no data in Column N?

Hello, please help me out with this one.

So I am at work workin on this report and I need a function that will make Excel automatically insert the today's date in a cell (let's say D90) when I fill the content of another cell (for example C90) and the that will be inserted will never change. I tried to use the =TODAY( ) function but it keeps updating the date in the cell to the current date if i reopen the worksheet 2 days later. I need the cell to keep in the cell the date of the day when I filled in the content of cell C90 and do not updated it every time i open the document to the actual date.. Thanks in advance!!


Is there a way to calculate the average days between a column of dates?

Basically, I've got a sheet that contains a table of entries, and each entry gets a date stamp in the first column. I would like to have the sheet display the average time, in days, between entries. Is this possible?

Hi there, longtime user firsttime poster. Looking for some help as I am a non-expert with macros. Here's what I'm trying to do:

We have to submit things to a certain regulatory body and we usually enter tasks in as soon as they come, do the submission, and then keep a record of that submission.

So, I have a workbook with two sheets, one is "TO DO", the other is "ARCHIVE". Both sheets have the same columns and everything. I am looking for a macro that will automatically cut a (row) from the TO DO sheet and paste it in into the ARCHIVE sheet once it is done, then delete the cut row from the TO DO list so it stays topped up.

The trigger for archiving is the columns M and N which are titled "Complete ?" and each has a validation drop down that says "YES". When both cells in columns M and N have the YES in them, I would like the macro to make the above mentioned actions.

I ran a search on the forums and found something similar, but not quite what I was looking for.

Any help?


I was wondering if anyone could help me out please?!?!

I need to have a cell on Sheet2 display the TEXT from a cell on Sheet1, is his possible??

Example:

Sheet1, Cell A1 contains a clients name and I would like to have Sheet2, Sheet3, Sheet4 etc... Display that clients name in a cell of my choosing (could be a different cell on each Sheet) automatically after entering it once on Sheet1, cell A1.

I thought this was possible but I can't seem to figure it out. I haven't done any real Excel work in quite a long time but I thought I had done this before a long time ago!! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance...

P.S. If I use autosum to do this it just displays the number 0, obviously, since it is trying to add numbers...

I uploaded a copy of the spreadsheet, What I would like to happen is have the text from Sheet1,D4 automatically be placed in Sheet2,A1 and Sheet3, B2. Hope this helps

I did a bit of browsing on this problem. Found others suffering the same but haven't found any conclusive answer yet.

Every so often when I attempt to save a file, (including save as), Excel won'r let me. By won't let me I mean:

using Save doesn't appear to do anything using Save As doesn't either do anything, the dialog is not displayed and if I am doing via the File menu then the File menu is exited and the previous ribbon tab is displayed (i.ethe one I was on before clicking 'File') if I close the workbook I am prompted to save, close without saving or cancel. Clicking save just invokes the same msgbox again. I can't work out when it goes into this mode. Some days I can work without this problem, other days I encounter this 2 or 3 times.

The only thing I could suspect was I think this started around about the time I installed xlDennis' code library. I have uninstalled the addin and so far so good, but I cannot categorically say that this was the cause.

Anyone have any idea?

Very new in this board. If I post this question in the wrong forum please bear with me.
There is about 20 staffs in our department and I have made a spreadsheet with 12 tabs for each month of the year Jan-Dec. If each staff have 15 days annual leave each year and how can I make a formular that can automatically calculate the balance of annual leave and entered in the tabs of the following months. For example if staff A used 5 days in Jan how can the balance of 10days be entered in the tabs from Feb-Dec. If he use another 5 days in July the remain balance of 5 days be automatically entered in the tab from Aug to Dec. Likewise if staff A took 2 days sick leave in Jan, and 2 days in Mar how can this sick days be automatically sum up in the months after. I am doing this manually at the moment and it is very time consuming and also very easy to make mistake.

I am trying to figure out how to write a formula to figure out production cycle time.
We will be building 8 "widgets" a day.
We will work 10 hours a day.
There is a 20 minute break at 9:20 am.
Production shuts down for lunch 30 minutes for lunch at 12:30.
Production starts at 6:00 am.
Here is what I can do.
Production cycle time = (10*60)-30/8 or 71.25 minutes
If we start at 6:00 am, the first scheduled cycle completion time = TIME(6,0,0+71.25/1440)

My problem is when I am trying to use a logical "IF' statement to account for the 20 minute break or lunch and still calculate the end of each cycle time through the day I receive a number of error messages.
This is the formula I am trying to make work. I have the cell the formula is in, formatted with a "mm,ss" format.
=(IF(D4+G1/1440>9:20,(D4+G1)/24,(D4+G1+15)/1440))
I have included an attachment to help (a picture is worth a thousand words).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How do I get the colors to change automatically when I use a drop down list.
Per say here is what I am trying to do

If a certain "word" is used from the drop down list I want the background of
that cell to change its color to "green." And if later I change the "word" to
another from the drop down list, it will change it's color to a specified
color.

The drop down list that I use was created from cells that have the colors
already in the "word", but I do not know how to make the list show the colors
so it puts the word & color automatically in the drop down list to the cell
with the drop down (if that makes any sense).

If there is a way, please spell it out simple enough for me to understand,
as I don't know fully the capabilities of formulas or vba.



Hi all.

I have set up a workbook that is sent out to lots of different users. They each keep and use their own copy.

I have set it up so that everything looks OK and is visible on MY screen, but I'm conscious that some users may have different screen sizes, different toolbars set up, and so on, which might make some parts not immediately visible to them.

I have set up an auto-execute macro which automatically sets the zoom factor to best fit, for several of the worksheets, and this works fine.
Here's the code that does it.
Code:

Sheets("WELCOME").Select
    Range("A1:N18").Select
    ActiveWindow.Zoom = True


By repeating this code for each worksheet, I can make each one be zoomed just right.

However, the file contains 8 sheets that are all identically laid out, except the number of rows is different.
What I want to do is go to the worksheet that has the largest number of rows (it's always the same worksheet, so I know which one it is), set the zoom factor for THAT worksheet (which I can do, and it always has the same number of rows), and then take THAT zoom factor, whatever it is - and it will vary depending on the user - and apply that to the other worksheets that have a similar layout.

I could just go through each worksheet and zoom it automatically, but that would mean that some of the sheets looked very large, others very small, and I'd like them to have a consistent appearance.
I could also specify a range on each worksheet that was similar to the appropriate range on the longest worksheet, and zoom that automatically, but that's not ideal either, because some of the row heights vary from sheet to sheet, and again I'll end up with different font sizes.

Anyone know how to do this ?

Is there a way to create a second worksheet that is based on data from an original sheet that will automatically update when you ADD ROWS to the original sheet?

Linking values between sheets is easy... but I need to be able to set a designated area on my A sheet that I can add rows into which will automatically be added to my B sheet.

Does anyone know of a function that I can apply for this?


I am trying to automatically capture and record the date of a cell's last change in value (date stamp). I have an item price list and if a particular cell gets updated I want to automatically record the date of change of that cell. I realize that after I change cell A1 I could tab to cell B1 and enter Ctrl+; but if I have a hundred new prices to enter I don't want to do that (plus me or the data entry person might forget).

For instance,

A B
1 $32.17 8/17/08
2 $43.20 9/12/09

If I go in and update cell A1 to $33.98 today I would like cell B1 to read 2/16/10. But I don't want cell B2 to change.

Is there a way I can use conditional formatting or something to change the color of the cell once I enter a value or text into that cell? For example if I currently have the A2 cell color as a gray color, and I enter information into A2 can I have it set to automatically change to no fill or any other color without having to click out of the cell, back into it, and then clicking the button?? Does that make sense??? Can someone help me?

I made a simple worksheet that we have been manually entering the time for employees, but there are too many errors (even with simple math). Can someone help me convert the time of ex: written 8-4:30 or 10-3 (meaning 8:00am to 4:30pm) where you have the total weekly hours? Right now I have a column for overtime. Is there a way to automatically calculate the over time also? The work day is 8-4:30 with a half hour lunch (lunch is not calculated into the hours, so you minus a half hour). 8-4:30 equals 8 hours. So, if a person works 8am to 6:30pm, how can I set it up where in the first row of time, I will type in 8-6:30pm. In the totals column to the far right, it will display 8 hours. In the (O.T.) column, it will display 2 hours.

This way, when I call in my payroll, I will have the total "regular" hours in one row and underneath, I will have the total overtime hours.

Or... does anyone have a better solution to keeping track of their hours?
