Vba Worksheetfunction.search Question

In a workbook if this function does not find the string its looking for then it returns #Value, but in VBA it doesn't seem to even recognize it as an error.

Here are a few quick examples: The sub breaks, but the function returns "#Value". What I need is a work around so that I can loop a search. Right now 1 failure returns "#Value" even if the first 10 searches in the loop worked. I've been trying to use worksheetfunction.iferror but it only works on the error if its in the workbook environment not while its still in vba.

Sub Macro1()
x = WorksheetFunction.Search("Goog", "Google")
MsgBox (x)
y = WorksheetFunction.Search("Goog", "Yahoo")
MsgBox (y)
End Sub

Function Macro1()
x = WorksheetFunction.Search("Goog", "Google")
Macro1 = x
End Function

Function Macro2()
y = WorksheetFunction.Search("Goog", "Yahoo")
Macro2 = y
End Function

Anyone know how I can get a failed search (y) to return 0, so I can keep a counter going like

x= x+y

I have a sheet with a list of names on and I've noticed that when I use ctrl+F to use the find function, even when I know i have entered the correct name it still will not work. I have identifed times when I know the name is there on the sheet, but the find function says "Excel cannot find the data you are searching for"

Im unable to put any pics up as my work pc has java disable so photobucket ect won't work but has anyone else come across this problem and how did you rectify it? A search macro perhaps?

Hello, I am pretty new to excel programming/messing around so I'll refer to those who are much wiser than I am. I am trying to set up a form for work, in this form I want to have a page with a bunch of cells pre-sized. What I want to do is when I insert a picture from a job site, that when this picture gets inserted, it will automatically resize to fit within the cell. I don't have time to manually resize dozens of pictures and if I could get this to work it would be awesome! I tried to search for an answer using the search function, but I kept getting a fatal error about allowable memory? Thanks in advance for you help!

I have a simple address book spreadsheet. I would like to create a Search
form, where the user can enter the Last Name of the person they are searching
for.

How to create a userform that will have button for search, edit, change, delete individual recordings. Also in case of listed results obtained records that could be printed?

Thanks

Is it possible to share a workbook with macros and have the macros work properly. I have one spreadsheet that needs to be shared by many users. We want to all be in the same document at the same time saving changes. The real catch is that the workbook has macros. I used the 'Share Workbook' function under tools. At the end of the setup, it told me that the macros would not work properly. The odd thing is that everytime I try to click on one of the macros I get an error, but yet the macro still performs the function. So essentially the macro works, it is just a pain because you have to click 'end' everytime on the error screen. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I found an excellent macro this morning that allows the user to filter a pivot table based on the value found in a specific cell. This cell essentially acts as a search bar, allowing the user to type in what they are looking for rather than select it from a drop-down list.

The macro works perfectly for my purposes except in one regard: I can no longer perform a "show all" filter. If I leave the "search bar" cell blank, the pivot table shows nothing. I'm sure that there is an easy fix for this but I'm still learning the basics of how to write and use macros. How can I change the code so that when I leave the cell blank, the pivot table shows all? The search bar cell is D2.

Thanks for your time!

So I've got some data, which has the approximate form of a sine function. I want to find all the x-axis intercepts. I tried using the intercept function and swapping around the y values for the x values, but it only returns 1 value (so I'd guess it uses a linear regression to estimate a single line through the axis).

I was thinking of trying a nested if/and statement but I haven't quite figured out how to do it. Basically I want to identify the two values where it switches from positive to negative and also indentify the values where it goes negative to positive, I can then fit a straight line between them to find a better approximation of the intercept (though it might not be necessary). Preferably I'd like it all one function as I'm not doing it in VBA (I might do later though, we'll see).

Can anyone suggest how I'd find these value or the x-intercept. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there an Excel guru that can help with this - its related to "drop down menus"

I have 2 colombs of data.

AT the bottom of the first, I have created a drop down menu using the "data validation" feature in excel.

At the bottom of the second colomb, I have used an "IF" function that returns a result, which depends on what value is chosen from the drop down menu in colomb 1

The problem I have is that I want the TRUE result from the IF function to be another drop down menu, being the data in colomb 2.

How do you write an IF function where the TRUE result is a drop down menu??
I tried to create a drop down menu of colomb2 elsewhere in the spread sheet, and used that cells location as the TRUE value, but this didn't work either...

ANy suggestions??

I have cells in a column, some colored yellow, some not. I am trying to use
the SUMIF function to sum only the cells in the range that are colored. Can
this be done? Can I enter something in the "criteria" part of the formula
that can do this?

=SUMIF(D3:D13,"criteria",D3:D13)

I also tried to use the CELL function's color feature, but I couldn't get it
to work right. I don't know how to get Excel to recognize if a cell is
colored in a formula.
=CELL("color",cell)

It might just be that I don't know what this means in Help:

"color" --> 1 if the cell is formatted in color for negative values;
otherwise returns 0 (zero).

Can anyone help?

I want to Sum Column "H" starting form "H2" all the way down (rows may vary)
Then Paste My answer in "AM1"
This is what I have so far and for some reason is not working.
Code:

myRange = ActiveSheet.Range("H2", Range("H2").End(xlDown))
Range("AM1") = WorksheetFunction.Sum(myRange)

Any Ideas?

I am trying to work out how to calculate the geometric mean of a series of values, some of which are negative, ie. investment returns over a series of years with some negatives.

The Geomean function doesn't work because it only uses positive numbers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks,

My problem is Tab no longer moves your active cell selection one to the right. It now moves to the last cell in your spreadsheet to the right (similar to CTRL+Arrow Key Right).

I seem to remember this being a simple setting you can change, but was unable to find it myself, or search the web for the way out. So my last result is asking the experts .

Do any of you know how to make it so Tab goes back to just moving one cell to the right again?

Thanks in advanced.

I am using the code below to disable the save function very successafully. However, is there a work around to allow a macro to save?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)

'this disables the save function on the XLS

MsgBox "****Save is Disabled****"
' Following line will prevent all saving
Cancel = True
' Following line will prevent the Save As Dialog box from showing
If SaveAsUI Then SaveAsUI = False
End Sub

Good day... I need an IF Function that will allow me to action a time in a time range:

... If the time 04:16 doesn't fall in the time range 04:00 - 04:29, than leave the x fiel empty

Since there isn't a ISDATE function in excel.

The following can be used to simulate the same, and avoid having to achieve the same with VBA's IsDate function:

STEPS:
1- Format the column (ex A) as text

2- Formula to check for valid dates:
=ISERROR(DATEVALUE(A1))

I did a search in here but didn't find an answer so here goes nothing...

I have a spreadsheet with data from A1 to H1 down to A275 to H275. I select all of it, Copy, go into the Sheet2 tab and select A1, Paste Special -> Transpose and it give me the following error message:
Quote:

The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following:
- Click a single cell, and then paste.
- Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why it's not working! I have done this many times with other spreadsheets. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, were you able to resolve it and how?

Many Thanks,
Mike

Is there a worksheet function that will generate all possible combinations of
a set of given numjbers. For example, 1, 3 and 8 would generate 138, 183,
318, 381, 813, 831 and so on...

Hi All,

I've been struggling with this for a while now and can't believe how hard it is!. I've searched on this site and on others to get some clarification but to no avail.

It's pretty simple really. I have a user form which contains a tex box for a user to input the date I want the format to be dd/mm/yyyy but can't find out how to set the format of the text box to this.

Please can someone give me a bit of guidence or link me to a good rescource if missed it in the search.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I've had a long search through your pages to see if this question has been answered before but having browsed through about 50 pages worth of threads I couldn't see anything, but if I am repeating prior information I do apologise.

I've written a macro that is relatively simple. It just takes some information in one format, rearranges it, adds some formatting and performs some calculations. Nothing incredibly fancy but it works fine on my computer.

Now, I need to share this macro with some other people, so basically I've just sent that excel file on to the people that need to use it. Should be fine and in most cases it is, however there is one user who although they can open the file, can't seem to get the macro to run properly.

It seems to get a small way through the macro but then stop with no error messages or any sign that it hasn't completed properly.

I have checked Macro Security level and that is the same as mine, Tools - Add-Ins is the same, In Visual Basic, Tools - References is the same as mine. It is the same Operating system and the same version of Excel.

I have even signed into this person's computer as myself (it's a big company network thing) and tried to run the macro and it works fine, so there is nothing wrong with the hardware.

I've googled and searched and tried everything I can think of but I'm no closer to solving this problem, so if anyone has read through this wall of text and can come up with a possible solution, that would be greatly appreciated to save me from tearing ALL my hair out!

Thanks very much for your time.
