Delete Extra Rows At Bottom

I am trying to delete extra rows at the bottom of my worksheet because they're all empty but they're making the file size huge!

Here are the repro steps:

1. I have two columns in the first worksheet
a. day (mon-sun),
b. date (1-1-07 to 12-31-07)
(these take up 366 rows total)

2. I copied columns A and B and then I went to the second spreadsheet and went to "paste special" > "paste link".

3. Now, that second worksheet has 65536 rows instead of only 366. I tried deleting the extra rows, but it's not working...

How can I get rid of these extra rows?

I'd appreciate any help - these extra rows are killing the file size.

In Excel there is a difference between cells that are blank (= "") and that are empty. You can make blank cells empty by selecting them and pressing the delete key, but I need a fast way to do this on all blank cells in a large worksheet. The only way I have found is with a VBA macro that loops through every cell, tests for '.Value = "" ' and then uses the '.Clear()' function, but doing this on 30 columns x 10000 rows is far too slow. Any solutions?

(The reason I need to do this is for importing into Access, the database treats empty cells as NULL which is what I want. Blank (but not empty) cells screw the import process up.)

Hi peeps

I want to combine data from several worksheets into one worksheet.

For example, I have data in Sheet1 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet2 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet3 (Columns A,B,C) all with varying amounts of rows. (All the rows contain text data).

I need to combine all of the data from the 3 sheets into a single sheet, Sheet4 (Columns A,B,C), eliminating the empty rows.

I've been looking into this for a while, and can't find anything that really helps. Anyone got any pointers of what to look into?

Any help will be beautiful.

Cheers

Hi,

I'd like help in creating a macro that deletes an entire row that has emtpy cells in col B, C & D in the same row.
So for example if I have empty cells in b3,c3 & d3 I'd like the row deleted.

I've used the code below for just column B but I need to include column C & D as well. I tried putting Columns("B:D") but it deletes everything.

Code:

Sub Step4()
   On Error Resume Next
   Columns("B:B").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks).EntireRow.Delete
End Sub

I'm sure it's something simple... like me !

Any help much appreciated

Why do I sometimes get extra blank pages from the printer on Word or Excel
documents? How can I prevent this?

Is there a way to reduce the unused rows in a worksheet without copying the populated rows and pasting in a different tab?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm unable to group/ungroup rows or columns on an excel worksheet that was
emailed to me by a co-worker. It's an existing file so I don't know what
restrictions were placed on the workbook. What can I do to fix this problem?

When I auto filter a spreadsheet, I can't figure out how to delete or
eliminate from the sheet the filtered-out rows. So when I refilter the sheet
with new items to get rid of, the old filtered items come back. I've tried
copying the range to another file, but I always get all the old data in the
new file.

Could you guide me please....

I need to insert 5 blank rows repeatedly between every existing data rows
for approximately 300 rows.

If I go about doing the repeat short-cut "Control+Y", it just repeats
inserting ONE row only between the consecutive data row.

Is there some command, which helps me highlight all the rows & allows me to
insert 5 blank rows between every consecutive existing data row?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

I would like to copy a small table from Word into one cell in an Excel
worksheet. The first column of the table is a list of numbers. I tried
converting the table into text with manual line breaks and tab stops to
divide columns and rows, but that didn't solve my problem.

Excel pastes the data into several rows. When I try to merge them, I
get a warning that the selection contains multiple data values, and
merging into one cell keeps the upper-left most data only.

What I tried that didn't work:
* Formatting the Excel cells as text before pasting the data.
* The various options for "Paste Special." The closest I got was
inserting the table as a Document Object, which could be a workaround,
I guess.
What I am saving for when all else fails:
* The obvious solution of copying row by row into one Excel cell.

The data in the table is information about my dad's medications. I
would like to have reference charts of how to identify the strength of
each tablet by its color and markings. I got the info from the
manufacturers' websites and entered it into tables in Word, which I
would like to copy into a more comprehensive file I am creating in
Excel. The first column of each table is the strength of the tablet,
entered as 1 mg., 2 mg., etc. The subsequent columns describe the
shape, color, and markings. There are 3 tables, each with about 4-5
rows.

Is there a way to copy each one - whether as a table or as text - into
a single Excel cell without losing data?

Many thanks.

Is it possible to import a single text file into Excel, splitting the incoming data across multiple worksheets rather than a single worksheet? Each each row on the text file would be evaluated by the value in one of it's "columns" and written to the appropriate worksheet. The file is "!" delimited and has 11 columns for each row.

Currently, I import the file into one worksheet and cut/paste the rows manually into new worksheets/tabs. The files are very large, sometimes exceeding the 65,536 row limit, which I could avoid if the data was split out coming in.

Any help anyone could provide would be WONDERFUL. Thanks!

There sure is...Here's how:

From the Excel main menu:
<data><group and outline><settings>
Uncheck: Summary rows below detail

Does that help?

I have a large worksheet. Over 20,000 rows. I want to split every 900 rows into new worksheets. I need each worksheet to be 900 rows or less when done. Any macro would be helpful.

Hi,
how do I select (in VBA) all the rows that were filtered out by autofilter (using VBA code) and delete them leaving just header. I just can't figure out how to select entire rows when the data is filtered...
Thanks for your hints!

This is my first post in these forums.
I am trying to create a formula which will look at the data in columns A - I (50 rows) and copy this data to columns K - S but ignoring any blank cells. Thereby consolidating the data in the upper rows with no spaces.
I am sure there is a relativley simple answer but it is driving me mad!
Hope you "Guru's" can help

Thanks

Hi-

I am brand new to Mr. Excel and would love some advice.

I searched the boards pretty extensively but could not find what I am looking for...I apologize if this is a duplicate.

I am using Excel 2007

How do you automatically add rows and update values for cells to a linked worksheet in which rows have been added? For example: Sheet 1, columns A & B are linked to Sheet 2, columns A & B. Sheet 2 has values in A1:A5 & B1:B5 and Sheet 1, since it is linked, has the same info. I want to add a row in between 3 & 4 on Sheet 2 and want Sheet 1 to automatically add the same row and update the value of the cell in column A & B.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

John

Hi Excel experts,
I am working on a worksheet, and would like to have an entire row transferred to another worksheet based upon a certain cell's value.

Having searched through the many solved threads on this site, I attempted to customize some of the code to my worksheet. Not being proficient in Macro/VBA, I failed. I figured I would ask for help, and see if anyone can provide what I am looking for.

Basically, I am attempting to construct a "work in process" file, and would like all completed work to be deleted from the work in process sheet, and transferred to a sheet that contains a running list of all work completed.

Attached is an example of what I am working on. I would like Column Q (Status) to determine if a row can be moved to a sheet that contains the list of all work completed, and eliminated from the original sheet. Once Status is updated to "Complete", it would be helpful to be able to run a macro/click a button that would perform the transfer.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks!

I have set up an excel file that helps put together different text components using the vlookup and concatenate formulas for use in one plain text document .

When I try to paste the finished result into notepad/textpad/word it adds extra double quote marks throughout the text. Does anyone know how to paste it without these marks?

Thanks!

I did a search in here but didn't find an answer so here goes nothing...

I have a spreadsheet with data from A1 to H1 down to A275 to H275. I select all of it, Copy, go into the Sheet2 tab and select A1, Paste Special -> Transpose and it give me the following error message:
Quote:

The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following:
- Click a single cell, and then paste.
- Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why it's not working! I have done this many times with other spreadsheets. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, were you able to resolve it and how?

Many Thanks,
Mike

Hello.

I have two huge excel files, with many rows and columns, they "should" look the same.

But I need to find out if anything has been added or removed from the second one compared to the first one.

Which is the easiest way to accomplish this?

Searched this forum and Google but couldn't find what i was looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Still learning VBA - I am trying to delete an entire row based on a condition in one cell in the row. Typically I would just filter on that value and delete the rows, but I am not sure if that is a possibility in VBA code. Can you provide the code if not too complex.

Select Cell A1 if value is 100 delete entire row, else skip to next row. Then loop through each row in the spreadsheet till all rows with selected cell equal to 100 are deleted.
