Reference Ribbon Control Without Callback

I've seen alot of callback references to iribboncontrols. This basically means that the control has to be interacted with in order for a piece of VBA code to fire. Can you reference an iribboncontrol from a regular module...something where you just have a sub:


the top of my XML code in my UIeditor looks like this:





I've tossed this into a regular module:

Sub ChangeToggleButton()

Dim QuickKeysToggleButtons As IRibbonControl

set QuickKeysToggleButtons = ?????????????

I'd like to get the toggleButton as an object. Is this possible, or can i only refer to ribbon objects by callbacks???? IF I can only refer to them by callbacks, how can i change their attributes without the user interacting with them???

after sorting data in ascending order, how do i unsort it to get back the original format? i can't find the option anywhere on the excel ribbon for this


I did a bit of browsing on this problem. Found others suffering the same but haven't found any conclusive answer yet.

Every so often when I attempt to save a file, (including save as), Excel won'r let me. By won't let me I mean:

using Save doesn't appear to do anything using Save As doesn't either do anything, the dialog is not displayed and if I am doing via the File menu then the File menu is exited and the previous ribbon tab is displayed (i.ethe one I was on before clicking 'File') if I close the workbook I am prompted to save, close without saving or cancel. Clicking save just invokes the same msgbox again. I can't work out when it goes into this mode. Some days I can work without this problem, other days I encounter this 2 or 3 times.

The only thing I could suspect was I think this started around about the time I installed xlDennis' code library. I have uninstalled the addin and so far so good, but I cannot categorically say that this was the cause.

Anyone have any idea?

The following code is placed in workbook 'A' and is used to open workbook 'B'. These workbooks will now always be housed in the same directory and i want to change the code to use a relative path reference by determining the path of workbook 'A'. here's what I had:

Sub income_statement()

Application.WindowState = xlMaximized
Application.Workbooks.Open "C:\Documents and Settings\.....\workbook B.xls", UpdateLinks:=xlUpdateLinksAlways

End Sub

could you suggest how to change this to use a relative path reference?


I have a couple of worksheets that have goal seek already performed on 20 target cells (for each worksheet). I did this manually, without a macro (since I'm absolutely horrible at all of this).

Now from what I can tell, I need a code to add to the worksheet module in order to make sure that the goal seek updates itself whenever I change a value in the formula of the target cell.

what IS that code?! I can't understand the codes some people have put up, so I have no idea what to do.

Target Cell: M21:M42
Changing Cells: N21: N42


I have a set of data about with approx 7500 cells all contained in one column. The data has a series of peaks that happen, and I need to identify each peak value and place it in a cell. The peak does not occur at regular intervals but they are somewhat regular, as in within 130-230 data points. So, if one could find the first peak in the first 200 cells, identify it and store it somewhere, then look in the next 200, store it, etc. I don't know how to do that in excel. Please help

I'm quite experienced Excel user. I've never come across this problem but tinkering in every conceivable way within Excel settings and the solution has eluded me.

I have added a worksheet created elsewhere (it is a form I need printing, with the data coming from 2 sheets I have created from scratch) which has pre formatted cells for Date and Client Name etc.

When I try to reference the cell in this added sheet from my 2 sheets, instead of the result, it always displays the formula, not the result.

I have tried doing it from one of my sheets to reference to this new, and that displays the result and not formula. I can't imagine why it's doing this and I've never seen it happen before.

Formatting cells, giving cells names rather than the usually adequate of reference to the Cell Number doesn't change things. I wonder if I've picked up some legacy protection from the original form but can't see anywhere in the tools etc that's obvious.

There's about 50+ cells that need referencing and I got to get this done for work.

Please help me. This is my first need to post on a Excel Forum as I've always found help or answers from other peeps or internet but this one is making me scratch my head big time.

When it sends it does not show the name in c5.
It just reads "Attrition for"

Should there be a different code?


I'm having a problem in a workbook with several ActiveX command buttons. I had been using the form control buttons to run macros, but the boss wanted each button to have it's own, different color. So I removed the form control buttons and created new ActiveX command buttons. I got into the button properties and set the background colors. I added the _Click code to run the macros when the user clicked the buttons.

All of the buttons were working fine. Then I saved and closed the workbook and went to lunch. Now when I open the workbook, the buttons don't work! When I click them nothing happens. They appear frozen. They don't even seem to click. No error message. Nothing.

If I right-click the button in Design Mode and select Properties, I get sheet properties not the button properties. I can't seem to locate the command button properties any longer. I still see the button name "cmdButtonGetInfo" and "=EMBED("Forms.CommandButton.1","") in the name box and formula bar. The odd thing is if I create a new button it works fine until I save and close the file. When I reopen the file none of the buttons work.

It's like the buttons are being disabled when I close or open the file. Any suggestions?


Thought I'd start this topic since there seem to be a number of topics where the answer seems to be to use one of the above rather than other. Thought I'd kick off with my 2 cents' worth.

I have a userform with frames containing textboxes. The user enters a currency value and once they leave the control, then a protected textbox next to it shows the corresponding value in SEK. I started off using the exit event but ran into 2 problems.

If you tabbed out of the last textbox in the frame, the exit event never kicked in (this is documented in other topics but took some time to find). This resulted in me using the exit event for all except the last textbox in the frame that used afterupdate instead I then discovered that the exit events didn't kick in if, instead of tabbing out of the field, I deliberately placed focus in a control elsewhere on the form. Changing the event from exit to afterupdate corrected this. My question then is ... could you guys document in this topic when you would/must use the exit rather than the afterupdate event (or vice-versa).

I have workbook in which I want to save a specific worksheet to a new file with only the values saved - all data in this worksheet are references to cells on another worksheet, which is using VLOOKUP to pull data from a database.

Found the following code and it gets me close, but it copies the cell references, not the values. It also allows me to specify the file name from a cell reference.

I want the new workbook file to simply be saved, not opened, and a message box to display stating where the file was saved (will always be in the same location on the LAN).

What modifications do I make to this to get this to work per above requirements?

Hi there,

I have a piece of code called ConvertDates that formats data contained on 6 worksheets. The 6 data sheets all contain a data connection to a website of foreign exchange tables.

What I want is for my code to execute as soon as the data connection refresh has finished.

When I use the statement

Code:

ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll
Application.Run "Project1.xlsm!ConvertDates"


The code executes the macro whilst the refresh is still happening, thereby screwing up my results. I don't really want to use a timed wait, because the refresh speed is going to vary from user to user.

Is there some way I can tell excel to wait till the refresh has finished and then execute the code?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.


I'm trying to open a pdf file from within excel vba. I have tried using the followhyperlink method but adobe acrobat opens very briefly then immediately closes Code:

So then I tried to create an instance of acrobat by setting a reference to the acrobat object but I can't get this to work either!

I have an image or picture within a worksheet.

I want to be able to reference it from a cell so that depending on a
validation list a different picture is shown.

Is this possible in Microsoft Exec 2000



I need information on how to enter the proper syntax (formula) so that excel
can calculate overtime hours. In california over 8 hrs in one day is
overtime. The 8 would be considered regular hours and anything over is OT.

I have a number of different files that I often need to run a macro on. In order for me to do it on the 75-100 files I have at any given time, I need to open one, run the macro, close and save, then open the next one.

Is it possible to write a macro that will start with the first file in a folder, open it and update links, run a macro, save and close, and open the next file in the folder until it has open all the files in the folder.

I have experience with creating macros that reference different workbooks, but not sure how to go about opening files with different filenames (without referencing the exact filename).

I'd like to be able to have basic code for opening, saving and closing, opening next file, saving and closing, etc. and input the macro I'd need to run in each file in the appropriate location. Is this possible? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I have searched and read all the help files. I find the properties of
an object, I see how I can "lock", "size and move with cells" or "not
move with cells". No matter what I select, the object moves off the
screen, when the user, scrolls to the right of the spreadsheet.

Is there a way to lock the position, let's say , in the upper right
corner and have it stay there?

This would be quite useful for an EXIT button, that I have created,
that will close the program without saving (it's a read-only file.)

I am copying charts to display the same information for different regions. When I work on the copied region, I find it a cumbersome task to go through each charts source data and change the cell references to the different region. Essentially I am doing a trending analysis for each region, with a region having its own sheet with 5 charts per sheet. What I have done is copy the original sheet and am updating the sheet for another regions source data by going to the source data. The source data is all in the same row/column format, but each regions source data has its own sheet. Is there a more automatic way to do this? Perhaps a way to update all 5 charts references at the same time.

Someone once showed me how if you have a a reference to a cell in one sheet
you could double click on the cell and it would jump to the referenced cell
in the reference cell's sheet.

For example.

Cell With Reference Referenced Cell in other
Sheet
A1 <--double click sheet1 cell A1 takes you to --> =Sheet2!A1



I get the error message "reference is not valid" each time I open my spreadsheet. I get this message three times, and once I am done clicking ok on all three of them, my spreadsheet works just fine. The problem is, I have to send it to a bunch people.

I have a sheet with raw data a sheet with pivot tables a sheet with a dashboard and a simple macro
I don't have any #REF cells either.

Someone has any idea of what could be the problem?

How can I stretch a spreadsheet to fit the page? If I try to make it one page by one page, it changes nothing. If I change the percentage, it becomes two wide...I am just trying to change the height so that it can be read on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper.
