Split String Into 40 Character Whole Words |
Split String Into 40 Character Whole Words - Excel |
|
I've just joined but I frequently find many answers to my queries by searching on the forum, excellent resouce.
I am working on a project in VBA for Office 2003. I've got a userform set up with text boxes and some of these text box fields need to be fed into an e mail. I'm fine with all the e mail side of it but where I am stuck is that each line of the e mail can only be 40 characters long as a maximum. So I figured I can use the Len function easy enough and split the text string from the box down into 40 character segments...But then I realised, I am working with titles of papers and books and such like and what I really need to do is split the text into a maximum of 40 characters providing the split doesn't end in the middle of the word, in which case I need to split it at the space between the words..
Can anyone help me out please? Here is an example of what I mean:
I have the following text entered into the text box:
"Proceedings of 4th International Porifera Congress: Sponges in time and space"
But as it is over 40 characters long if I count to the 40th then that leaves me with:
"Proceedings of 4th International Porifer"
But what I really need is to have the text split as:
"Proceedings of 4th International"
And then the next 40 characters counting on from the end of "Interrnational" etc and keep going until I have got the complete title split out into complete word segments of 40 characters or less.
I don't know if that makes sense, would be very greatful for any advice.
Thanks
Timmo

I wonder if you could help with this one, I have a list of data like this (no spaces or other characters)
JN551122B
What I need to do is split each of the characters in to its own cell
if JN551122B was in cell A1 I'd want to return:
B2 C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 H2 I2 J2
J N 5 5 1 1 2 2 B
The nearest I have got is the right function, but it brings over the preceeding characters, and I need each character in its own cell. Hopefully I could copy/paste a formula and change the reference for each cell value, i.e. 1 would return J, 2 = N, 3 = 5, 4 = 5 etc.
Thanks for your help!
I have several rows of text data, the first 17 characters of which are in this format (4 letters_-_DD.MM.YYYY
It's then followed by a variable number of characters i.e.
ABCD - 01.02.2003 ABCDEFG HIJ KLMNO
I would be grateful for a formula that will delete all characters to the right of the 17th character (i.e. the '3').
Many thanks!
I want to split the lines into multiple rows. Each line should come in a different row.
I want to do this using macro. Is there is anyway to do this?
There is an option to split the cell into multiple cells on the basis of the delimiter, but there is no option to split them into rows.

I need to find cells with text that have more than one space between the first and last names; and cells with text that have only one space between the first and last names.
I am fairly new to excel. I can find the space after the first word but cannot tell it to find ones that say have a space then another string of text.
Thank you for your help!
How can I get the separate lines of text in my textbox to be properly displayed in a cell? Thanks for your help in advance..
my text entries are rather lengthy. The past two weeks these lengthy entries
are showing up as pound signs (#########) when I click off the cell. I know
the text will fit in the cell, and the problem isn't solved by making the
cell bigger or using a little bit less text. I have the cells formatted as
"text" and "wrap to fit". I have printed the pages and the printed version
also has pound signs. I just want my text to show up!
So, basically I'm after: If column B has text, do nothing. If column B is blank, then list text from Column A.
Right now I've created Column C with this formula =IF(ISBLANK(B1), A1. That's working to get the text from A1 when B1 is blank. What can I do/add to get it pull the text from B1 if there is text there? Or...is there a better approach altogether?
I have the following code to put data from a VBA userform into Excel
Dim Sh As Worksheet
Dim Rng As Range
Set Sh = ActiveSheet
Set Rng = Sh.Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)
With Rng
.Cells(1, 1) = Surname.Text
.Cells(1, 2) = forename.Text
.Cells(1, 3) = datein.Text
.Cells(1, 4) = origin.Text
.Cells(1, 5) = Addressee.Value
.Cells(1, 6) = usual.Value
.Cells(1, 7) = dateto.Text
.Cells(1, 8) = permission.Value
.Cells(1, 9) = dateseen.Text
.Cells(1, 10) = requestview.Value
.Cells(1, 11) = Invoice.Value
.Cells(1, 12) = notes.Text
.Cells(1, 13) = datecompleted.Text
.Cells(1, 14) = holdsend.Value
.Cells(1, 15) = fee.Text
.Cells(1, 16) = notes2.Text
.Cells(1, 17) = dateseen.Text
.Cells(1, 18) = invoicesent.Text
.Cells(1, 19) = Paid.Text
.Cells(1, 20) = Complete.Value
End With
What I want to do next is click on the surname on the speadsheet and call up the userform with the fields complete for that person. I would also like to be able to edit/update the form and update the information on the speadsheet accordingly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks!
Probably a simple little function, help would be appreciated!
I'd like to take a number entered into one cell ie. A1 = 20
and split it randomly but evenly over 3 other cells ie.
B1=6
C1=8
D1=6
Number should be whole and no zeros?
Thanks all!
I'm trying to extract all the text in a cell which is on the right side of a comma (,)
Currently I am using this formula,
=RIGHT(C1,FIND(",",C1)-1)
However it sometimes is missing some of the data after the , and sometimes pulling a few characters before the ,
any suggestions on how to correct my formula please?
Thanks in advance.
Example
Fire Street #50 this cell contains 17 characters therefore I need to add the rest by adding blank spaces to reach 50 characters, otherwise the system I am exporting the data will not understand this cell
Code:
Text in Cell Desired Results *Bobby Abreu Bobby Abreu #Erick Aybar Erick Aybar Jason Bartlett Jason Bartlett
Is there a formula that will get me where I want to be?
Thanks!
Chuck
I'm using the formula below but keep getting #VALUE results
B1: =LEFT(A1,FIND(",",A1,1))
I know it's not that hard but can't figure it out.
thanks for the help

Can somebody help me, i'm new to excel!
Currently, I import the file into one worksheet and cut/paste the rows manually into new worksheets/tabs. The files are very large, sometimes exceeding the 65,536 row limit, which I could avoid if the data was split out coming in.
Any help anyone could provide would be WONDERFUL. Thanks!
I need to know how to auto-fill text based on text in another cell. For
example:
Every time I enter "CHS" in Column B, I want Charleston to auto-fill in
Column C.
And when I enter "SAN", in Column B, I want San Diego to auto-fill in Column
C.
How can I set up a list like this? Any ideas?
Thanks!

format the text cells (name, etc) to have text entered as uppercase
automatically although the user might use title or lower case.
UPPER function cannot make cell look at itself and perform the function
Excel 2003
to the email address, like change the font color or change on letter, Excel
tries to email the address. If I click in the formula bar to make the
changes, it automatically changes it back to all blue text and underlined. I
have tried to format all of the cells as "Text" to show as entered, but it
doesnt work. PLEASE HELP
