Hidden Named Ranges In Excel

Hello all,

Does anyone know how to find hidden named ranges in Excel?

My company has added software to Excel where the software can determine errors in your spreadsheet. For example, this software can find cells that reference blank cells and cells that have the same color font and background (as in, you are trying to hide the results of the formula). In addition, this software lists out all named ranges in a spreadsheet.

When I ran the software, it was determined that I have many named ranges within this spreadsheet. My first step was to delete all named ranges by choosing Insert-Name-Define and deleting all named ranges (including set print areas). Basically, I was trying to get rid of all named ranges.

After I did this, there are still many named ranges within Excel, even though they do not show up in the Insert-Name-Define menu. I tried to do a find (with Control-F) for some of these ranges, but was unsuccessful. Does anyone know how to delete these hidden named ranges?

One related issue - Every time I try to copy a sheet in this file, I get numerous messages indicating "A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name "XXXXXXX", which already exists on the destination worksheet. Do you want to use this version of the name?" I get this message with every named range that exists (11 times). The "XXXXXXX" can be replaced with the other named ranges.

One final note - I am using Excel 2002.

Thanks!

I have a workbook that has recently changed on me and is causing a lot of grief. I have a lot of named ranges that the scope of the named range has changed to a new sheet. This is creating a lot of problems! Is there any way to manually change the scope of a named range? without deleting the nmaed range and recreating it?

I am trying to sum all numbers <0 using the SUMIF formula in Excel 2003.

FORMULA: =sumif(range,criteria,sum_range)

I got it to work, but I have cell ranges to total that are not next to each
other (such as A5:A15 and C5:C15).
When selecting the ranges for the formula, Excel writes them A5:A15,C5:C15

because of the comma (,) between the cell ranges Excel is reading the A5:A15
as the range and C5:C15 as the critera. How can I get this formula to allow
me to select multiple cell ranges?

All help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Regarding Charts in Excel:

Is there a way to have the Min and Max values adjusted dynamically for the Scale of the values being displayed ??

I know that I can use named ranges to display various sections of data -- month by month, or quarter by quarter, for example.

But when the value of these ranges vary greatly from section to section I end of having to manually go and adjust the Min and Max values of the chart scale.

For example, if I was looking at a graph of the S&P 500's prices last November, a Min and Max range of 750 to 1200 would be fine. But if I had a dynamic range established and scrolled over to view the S&P 500's prices for this past February, I would need a Min and Max range of around 650 to 850.

Is there a way to have these Min & Max values adjust automatically depending on the values being displayed ??

Thanks

Hi,

This is a very basic question, but i have been struggling for hours, so I must ask.

I I trying to simply fill a combobox on a userform from a named range on a sheet, I want to populate the combobox as soon as the userform starts. (I launch the userform from a button on the sheet) Where must I place the code? and will this code work?
Code:

Sub Button1_Click()
Set UserForm1.combobox1.List = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("MyRange")
UserForm1.Show
End Sub

I am very new to vba, so please excuse my ignorance,
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello -

I am using Excel 2007. In prior versions of excel, when copying data, if I wanted to copy visible cells only, I would select "Go To, Special, Visible Cells Only" and then copy a range a cells. The default was always set to copy everything (including hidden cells), unless I specifically selected copy visible cells only.

In 2007, the default is somehow set to always copy only visible cells. Sometimes, I want to be able to copy all cells including those hidden but cannot seem to figure out how to swith this default option. I looked under Excel Options and did not see an option there.

I don't want to have to unhide and rehide everything each time i copy. I know i could do the hiding and unhiding via VBA but would prefer not to have to.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi there. I'm using Excel 2007 and often use filters to find inconsistent data (mis-spellings, etc.) and then clean up the data using the fill handle to fill in correctly formatted values. I'm finding that, with a simple filter on, dragging over cells hidden by the filter changes the values in the hidden cells too. This is something I don't remember from my last version of Excel. I'm wondering if I've mis-remembered how this control works, or if there is a setting I can't find.

My goal is to drag and fill (or paste) in a colum with a range of rows wiht some hidden (filtered out) rows, and have the filtered out data be unaffected, if that makes sense.

Thanks!

Corporate edict.

I have a worksheet that is locked and protected now, except for cells in a certain collumn. I have named the cells in that column "MS96A".

If a user enters a date in a cell or range of cells anywhere in the column, the changed cells also need to be locked and protected (Once they enter a date, it is not allowed EVER to be changed again. Corporate requirement! *Shrug*).

What I am looking for is this. If the user selects that cell again, they will get the usual pop-up message, "The cell or chart that you are trying to change is protected..."

I think I am close, but I am getting an "End If without block If" error on the If Clause.

Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
Dim MRange As Range
Set MRange = Range("MS96A")
' If Not Intersect(Target, MRange) Is Nothing Then For Each cell In MRange Sheets("Sheet1").Unprotect Password:="temp"
cell.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
cell.Font.Color = vbBlack
Selection.Locked = True
Selection.FormulaHidden = False
Next cell
ActiveSheet.Protect Password:="temp", _
DrawingObjects:=False, _
Contents:=True, _
Scenarios:=False
ActiveSheet.EnableSelection = xlUnlockedCells
End Sub

Hello, what I would like to do is take a portion of a sheet..... So the cells I want to mirror are in the proposal sheet cells B32 x F51. And then mirror the exact duplicate copy to another sheet. The other sheet should have those same values at A20 X G39. What I am trying to do is have a sheet that has skus, prices, and so forth and then when I add,delete, merge, color, or do anything to the cell on the "proposal creation" sheet I want it to mirror only a specific cells to another sheet that is "salesman copy" that we will print to clients. So this way ont he proposal copy a salesman can insert rows or even change the color of the cells and then have it mirror exactly the same on the "salesman copy" which is what we will print for clients. Thank you.

I have an Excel workbook that was created by a former coworker. It includes a macro that, among other things, displays a message box about the 2008 file. The macro runs as soon as the file is opened. I'd like to access that macro to correct the date to 2011 and see what else, if anything, it's doing for me (it doesn't appear to do much). I can find references to creating macros to hide and unhide rows/columns and I found ways to delete all macros in a workbook, but I cannot find anything about unhiding a macro without knowing its name.

Does anyone know of a way to unhide this macro?

Thanks!

Hello,

Firstly i haven't used excel to a great extent since my college days. So i'm having to re-learn 99.9% of everything i once new...

I am volunteering for a non profit organization and trying to create a reservation system for the rooms that they have - kind of like hotel software, but in excel (i did a similiar thing in college but for plane seats)

Please find it attached.

What i need it to do:

Copy all of the info from the main page to the guest lit (a new row each time).

From the guest list to the Gannt chart - i did a few tutorials on dynamic gantt charts using conditional formatting but cannot get them to work when based on data on a different worksheet.

Finaly is there a way to check for availabilty on any given date?

if just someone could point me in the right direction, i would be appreciate it so much words can't express!!!

Best Regards,

Jamie

P.S for the calender drop down on the main page, i'm using 'microsoft time & date picker 6.0)

Hi. I have a row in a spreadsheet in Excel that is hidden but i am unable to unhide it. I have tried the usual way by hovering between the rows above and below until i get the double line but this does not happen. I have also tried going through the Format - Row - Unhide option but this also doesn't work. Any suggestions?

If I want to activate a workbook, I would do this:

Code:

Windows("File.xls").Activate

But what if the File.xls was a variable named File?

I have tried this:

Code:

Windows(File).Activate

Without success. Please advise.

If you change Excel to Full Screen View and your taskbar is always on top (as
it normally is), the bottom of the spreadsheet is hidden behind the taskbar.
Does anyone know how to get around this without hiding the taskbar? I have
found that if I drag the taskbar to the bottom and then back up again, the
Excel window resizes itself correctly and the bottom of the spreadsheet is
visible again. Problem is, I want to do this from VBA! Can anyone help
please???

I get the error message "reference is not valid" each time I open my spreadsheet. I get this message three times, and once I am done clicking ok on all three of them, my spreadsheet works just fine. The problem is, I have to send it to a bunch people.

I have a sheet with raw data a sheet with pivot tables a sheet with a dashboard and a simple macro
I don't have any #REF cells either.

Someone has any idea of what could be the problem?

thanks

I have a large spreadsheet in Excel 2007. I am converting it to a .csv file to import in to another program. I need to delete all commas from all data.

When I try to replace all commas (with nothing or with another character), I get the error message "The formula you typed contains an error."

I have tried various formats (text, general, etc.) and various file types (.xls,.xlsx, .csv) and still get the same error.

I saw two threads in this forum that asked this question, with no good answer. I am posting this solution for anybody still struggling with this.

The question:
How can you prevent a cell's contents from overflowing into the next cell?

Of course, you can make the column wider or turn on text wrapping, but you might not want to. Each of those solutions can mess up the layout of your sheet. You may just want to truncate the value.

Some people have suggested putting a space in the next cell. This is unnecessary, a pain in the but, and will mess up any ISBLANK type formulas, among other things.

The solution:
Select the cells in question and turn on text wrapping (Format>Cells>Alignment>Wrap Text).
Now select the row(s) in question and manually set the row height, by right clicking the row number and selecting "Row Height". Check the height of an adjacent row for a good value.

Your cells will now not spill over either horizontally or vertically. They will simply truncate anything that doesn't fit.

Be careful now, because parts of your data may be hidden. This can cause its own set of problems if one or two digits are neatly hidden away. Think ahead if other people might be using this sheet, and not be expecting to have some data hidden.

Tested in Excel 2002

Hello

I'm quite experienced Excel user. I've never come across this problem but tinkering in every conceivable way within Excel settings and the solution has eluded me.

I have added a worksheet created elsewhere (it is a form I need printing, with the data coming from 2 sheets I have created from scratch) which has pre formatted cells for Date and Client Name etc.

When I try to reference the cell in this added sheet from my 2 sheets, instead of the result, it always displays the formula, not the result.

I have tried doing it from one of my sheets to reference to this new, and that displays the result and not formula. I can't imagine why it's doing this and I've never seen it happen before.

Formatting cells, giving cells names rather than the usually adequate of reference to the Cell Number doesn't change things. I wonder if I've picked up some legacy protection from the original form but can't see anywhere in the tools etc that's obvious.

There's about 50+ cells that need referencing and I got to get this done for work.

Please help me. This is my first need to post on a Excel Forum as I've always found help or answers from other peeps or internet but this one is making me scratch my head big time.

I am trying to do a very simple copy and paste of a simple formula in Excel 2007 and nothing seems to be working. Excel will not let me copy and paste a formula and will only paste the value into to workbook. For instance, if I make a very simple spreadsheet such as:
A1 type in 10, A2 type in =A1 (calculated A2 to be 10)
B1 type in 5

And then click the copy on B1, and then click paste special on cell B2, the only options it gives me are text and unicode text and so no matter how I paste, cell b2 will always be populated with a value of 5. I cannot imagine a simpler copy and paste and no matter what I do I can't make this work.
All cells are formatted as general. It seems that all copy and pasting of formulas in my excel has been disabled. If I open any spreadsheet on my computer, I can't copy and paste formulas, but do the exact same thing on the exact same spreadsheet on any other computer and it works no problem.

Any help?

Hi there,

I'm very new to Excel, and I'm having trouble figuring a few things out. Hopefully this will be very easy for you guys!

In Sheet 1, I have a column of cells that I would like to also appear in Sheet 2. If I add a new row to the column in Sheet 1, I would also like it to be updated automatically in Sheet 2. Currently, I can get it to show the contents of individual cells from Sheet 1 in Sheet 2 by using this formula in the formula bar for each cell in Sheet 2:

=Sheet1!A3 (or whichever cell it is)

That's fine, but I'd like to just have a formula that will reproduce the entire column (ie. without a fixed range, as new rows are going to be added to the column).

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be very very grateful. Thanks.

Okay, so I tried (for hours) to find a solution to this and have finally gotten frustrated to the point where i think asking here will be my best bet.

Basically I want to export data from excel worksheets to various places on a word document I had. I have created a word template as well as bookmarks for that template, as that seems to be the recommendation for performing such a task with excel.

My problem is ... Now what?

I basically have 1 constant worksheet that contains all my affiliates info (Name, Address etc), which i'd like to use to populate some bookmarks in my word template, and then i have another worksheet for the previous month, indicating sales etc for that affiliate. I intend on adding a new worksheet every month that i would use to create new invoices.

Furthermore, i'd really like to be able to update a new file (or perhaps a new page on the same file) for each company with the use of a button, similar to the one's you'd see in an access form.

Can anyone help? Let me know if you need me to clarify.

Thanks!

Matt
