Split String Into X Length And Insert Splits Into New Rows

I have hundreds of rows with a particular column that has cells with hundreds of characters. I need to trim each cell within this column to 80 characters, add a new row below and paste the reaming characters in the new line.

I do not need to add a line-break, I need to add a new row.

For example, I have a cell with 433 characters. Therefore, I would need to add five new rows for a total of six rows (433/80 characters = 5.48 rows) with the first five rows filled with 80 characters and the last row with 33 characters (80+80+80+80+80+33=433).

Can this be done with VB or a macro and if so can someone please help me with the code?

Thanks so much.

JK

Hello

I have several rows of text data, the first 17 characters of which are in this format (4 letters_-_DD.MM.YYYY

It's then followed by a variable number of characters i.e.

ABCD - 01.02.2003 ABCDEFG HIJ KLMNO

I would be grateful for a formula that will delete all characters to the right of the 17th character (i.e. the '3').

Many thanks!

Hello All, I have a column where cells need to be 50 characters long, it contains addresses, however, since all the addresses do not meat the criteria, I need to add (blank spaces) to reach the 50 characters, any idea on how to approach this?

Example

Fire Street #50 this cell contains 17 characters therefore I need to add the rest by adding blank spaces to reach 50 characters, otherwise the system I am exporting the data will not understand this cell

i have a cell i have to check if it contains six characters. I have a list of data that i need to narrow down to six characters. I have successfully done that, but some of the cell has 5, 6, or 7 characters. The list contains about 600 cells, but i don't have time to format them individually. I want to create a formula that returns true or false if the cell contains 6 characters and false if it is above or below 6.

Can somebody help me, i'm new to excel!

Hello All

I wonder if you could help with this one, I have a list of data like this (no spaces or other characters)

JN551122B

What I need to do is split each of the characters in to its own cell

if JN551122B was in cell A1 I'd want to return:

B2 C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 H2 I2 J2
J N 5 5 1 1 2 2 B

The nearest I have got is the right function, but it brings over the preceeding characters, and I need each character in its own cell. Hopefully I could copy/paste a formula and change the reference for each cell value, i.e. 1 would return J, 2 = N, 3 = 5, 4 = 5 etc.

Thanks for your help!

Hi

I am looking for a formula to remove special characters and spaces from a cell

I have been using "substitute" but this requires me to know which character I want to remove and this isn't always known

I have tried looking at some macro solutions but became lost quite quickly

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

I am looking for a formula to remove special characters (like ' , " & - ) in a sheet.
Thank you.

Hey everyone - how would I create an IF statement that looks at the first two text characters of a particular cell?

I have a merged cell which contains a text with multiple lines.
I want to split the lines into multiple rows. Each line should come in a different row.
I want to do this using macro. Is there is anyway to do this?
There is an option to split the cell into multiple cells on the basis of the delimiter, but there is no option to split them into rows.

Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie with Excel, but...

I have several cells with data that contain both letters and numbers (4H, 8V, 4FH, etc.) What I want to do is remove only the text characters from these cells, and add the remaining number values together among a series of cells with this data type.

If your answer involves using a macro or VB, please provide a link on how to use the formula. I've never used a macro or VB.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm trying to extract all the text in a cell which is on the right side of a comma (,)

Currently I am using this formula,

=RIGHT(C1,FIND(",",C1)-1)

However it sometimes is missing some of the data after the , and sometimes pulling a few characters before the ,

any suggestions on how to correct my formula please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone,
I have searched online and in help but can't seem to find the best solution...

I have values like 00904BB303D6 that need to become: 00:90:4B:B3:03:D6 (the value is always 12 digits, and the : needs to appear every two digits.) Is there a formula that can easily do this for me? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!!!

Could you guide me please....

I need to insert 5 blank rows repeatedly between every existing data rows
for approximately 300 rows.

If I go about doing the repeat short-cut "Control+Y", it just repeats
inserting ONE row only between the consecutive data row.

Is there some command, which helps me highlight all the rows & allows me to
insert 5 blank rows between every consecutive existing data row?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

I am puzzled by a thin black line (that looks like a border line) on a spreadsheet that I am unable to remove, whatever I do. It starts halfway across column B and stops just at the end of column Z.
It is not a border line.
It is not a page break.
If I delete the rows it appears on it remains visible.
It is not an object floating on top of the spreadsheet.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I have a large worksheet. Over 20,000 rows. I want to split every 900 rows into new worksheets. I need each worksheet to be 900 rows or less when done. Any macro would be helpful.

I have sheet with rows and each row has formulas based on cells in that row.
I would like to have a new row automatically inserted with the formulas
updating to reference the cells in the new row. Let's say I start with 50
rows and after they are filled up, a new row is added automatically? How do I
do this?

I would like to create a formula that removes a specific character if it appears in a cell. In this case, if the text in the name cell starts with * or #, remove it. Otherwise, keep the contents intact. Examples:

Code:

Text in Cell Desired Results
*Bobby Abreu Bobby Abreu
#Erick Aybar Erick Aybar
Jason Bartlett Jason Bartlett

Is there a formula that will get me where I want to be?

Thanks!

Chuck

Hi!

I have a question regarding filtering of columns, hopefully someone is able to put me on the right track. I have set up Excel 2007 so that I can click on the drop-down menu in each column to filter them.

However, in my data set there is one blank row separating two set of rows. Now, when I apply the filter on a column, all the rows above the blank row filter correctly, but all the rows below stay un-filtered.

I guess Excel only looks at the consequtive rows, then stops when it hits a blank row. Is there any way of applying the filter beyond a blank row (i.e. the whole column)?

Any advice is higly appreciated.

I would like to copy a small table from Word into one cell in an Excel
worksheet. The first column of the table is a list of numbers. I tried
converting the table into text with manual line breaks and tab stops to
divide columns and rows, but that didn't solve my problem.

Excel pastes the data into several rows. When I try to merge them, I
get a warning that the selection contains multiple data values, and
merging into one cell keeps the upper-left most data only.

What I tried that didn't work:
* Formatting the Excel cells as text before pasting the data.
* The various options for "Paste Special." The closest I got was
inserting the table as a Document Object, which could be a workaround,
I guess.
What I am saving for when all else fails:
* The obvious solution of copying row by row into one Excel cell.

The data in the table is information about my dad's medications. I
would like to have reference charts of how to identify the strength of
each tablet by its color and markings. I got the info from the
manufacturers' websites and entered it into tables in Word, which I
would like to copy into a more comprehensive file I am creating in
Excel. The first column of each table is the strength of the tablet,
entered as 1 mg., 2 mg., etc. The subsequent columns describe the
shape, color, and markings. There are 3 tables, each with about 4-5
rows.

Is there a way to copy each one - whether as a table or as text - into
a single Excel cell without losing data?

Many thanks.

I need to lock consecutive rows together before sorting. e.g. A1 contains a name and A2 is blank: B1 contains data related to name in A1 - so does B2, and so on. Therefore need to lock rows 1 and 2 together, then 3 and 4 together and so on, but sorting on the data in the first cell of the group e.g. A1
