Fire Street #50 this cell contains 17 characters therefore I need to add the rest by adding blank spaces to reach 50 characters, otherwise the system I am exporting the data will not understand this cell
Can somebody help me, i'm new to excel!
I have several rows of text data, the first 17 characters of which are in this format (4 letters_-_DD.MM.YYYY
It's then followed by a variable number of characters i.e.
ABCD - 01.02.2003 ABCDEFG HIJ KLMNO
I would be grateful for a formula that will delete all characters to the right of the 17th character (i.e. the '3').
Many thanks!
I wonder if you could help with this one, I have a list of data like this (no spaces or other characters)
JN551122B
What I need to do is split each of the characters in to its own cell
if JN551122B was in cell A1 I'd want to return:
B2 C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 H2 I2 J2
J N 5 5 1 1 2 2 B
The nearest I have got is the right function, but it brings over the preceeding characters, and I need each character in its own cell. Hopefully I could copy/paste a formula and change the reference for each cell value, i.e. 1 would return J, 2 = N, 3 = 5, 4 = 5 etc.
Thanks for your help!
I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.
Many thanks,
Andy
I am looking for a formula to remove special characters and spaces from a cell
I have been using "substitute" but this requires me to know which character I want to remove and this isn't always known
I have tried looking at some macro solutions but became lost quite quickly
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
I'm a bit of a newbie with Excel, but...
I have several cells with data that contain both letters and numbers (4H, 8V, 4FH, etc.) What I want to do is remove only the text characters from these cells, and add the remaining number values together among a series of cells with this data type.
If your answer involves using a macro or VB, please provide a link on how to use the formula. I've never used a macro or VB.
Thanks.
Code:
Text in Cell Desired Results *Bobby Abreu Bobby Abreu #Erick Aybar Erick Aybar Jason Bartlett Jason Bartlett
Is there a formula that will get me where I want to be?
Thanks!

I'm trying to extract all the text in a cell which is on the right side of a comma (,)
Currently I am using this formula,
=RIGHT(C1,FIND(",",C1)-1)
However it sometimes is missing some of the data after the , and sometimes pulling a few characters before the ,
any suggestions on how to correct my formula please?
Thanks in advance.
For example: Cell A1 has a time format (hh:mm) value of 04:00; which is the Start Time. I would like cell D1 to have a text format value of "04:00" (result is dependant upon what is entered in A1). I would duplicate the same formulas to reflect Stop Times in other cells.
My final result is to have another cell (F1) use the Concatenate formula to have the Start and Stop time shown in one cell as "04:00 - 12:30". The times would change based on the Time formated values entered into the Start and Stop time cells.
I have researched this in the board and found many excellent ways to do the opposite, but not convert Time format to Text format. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
would really appreciate anyones help with this.
I have a column full of text-formatted fractions...
4/5
6/4
3/1
2/5
4/5
etc, etc.....the column is very long!!
I need to convert these to actual fractions...ones I can add to equations, allowing me to multiply and add.
If I highlight the column and goto "format Cells" and change to fraction, the values still stay in the left of the cell.....its only when I manually click on each individual cell, then tick the little green tick, does the cell validate, and the value in the cell moves to the right (and is therefore a proper value).....problem is I have to keep doing this for each individual cell.....and I have 70000+ cells in this column!
Any suggestions on how I could speed this up?
thanks
Could you be so kind as to provide some code that will enable me to display a text box on a userform rounded up to 1 decimal place.
Where am I going wrong....
it calculates the number entered in textbox1 and divides it by a value that changes in cell O26 but the answer is in about 8 or more decimel places.
Only need like 65.3 as an answer not 65.277756942
This is the code ive used.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
TextBox2.Value = Val(TextBox1.Value) / Range("O26").Value
End Sub
The question:
How can you prevent a cell's contents from overflowing into the next cell?
Of course, you can make the column wider or turn on text wrapping, but you might not want to. Each of those solutions can mess up the layout of your sheet. You may just want to truncate the value.
Some people have suggested putting a space in the next cell. This is unnecessary, a pain in the but, and will mess up any ISBLANK type formulas, among other things.
The solution:
Select the cells in question and turn on text wrapping (Format>Cells>Alignment>Wrap Text).
Now select the row(s) in question and manually set the row height, by right clicking the row number and selecting "Row Height". Check the height of an adjacent row for a good value.
Your cells will now not spill over either horizontally or vertically. They will simply truncate anything that doesn't fit.
Be careful now, because parts of your data may be hidden. This can cause its own set of problems if one or two digits are neatly hidden away. Think ahead if other people might be using this sheet, and not be expecting to have some data hidden.
Tested in Excel 2002
I have searched online and in help but can't seem to find the best solution...
I have values like 00904BB303D6 that need to become: 00:90:4B:B3:03:D6 (the value is always 12 digits, and the : needs to appear every two digits.) Is there a formula that can easily do this for me? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!!
Cell B5: start time: 4:15 formatted as 4:15:00 am
Cell B6: finish time: 6:15 formatted as 6:15:00 am
Cell B7: total time: 2:00 formula in cell: =TEXT(B6-B5,"h:mm")
Cell B8: total batches processed: 22 (this is entered manually)
Cell B9: batches per hour: formula in cell: =B8/TEXT(B7,"h")
as long as I have this formula in cell B9 the answer comes out correct which should be 11 per hour.
If the formula in B9 is B8/B7, the answer is 264.0, Is this because of the way excel is reading the total time or the total time is formatted as a time, not an actual number? Is this the correct way to solve the problem?
answer should be 11 per hour.
where each cell/column begins and ends. However there are a few cells where
the break with the next cell does not show the line.
I have highlighed the cell in question, gone to format/cell/borders and
everything looks fine. Black color + format border shows square with all
sides of square showing.
Any thoughts on how to fix these few random cells.
Thanks
