Need to "lock in" merged cells when selecting insert/table

    Hi,

I have an excel sheet that has rows merged (ex. A3-A19 and A20-36 are merged but data from B3-36 are not merged). I need to be able to use the "insert/table" function for an add-in, but when doing so, it un-merged cells of A3-A19. Is there any way to lock in the merged feature?

The feature I need from this add-in is its ability to split/separate each unique data entry in that column into separate worksheets. If anyone knows another way to do this without un-merging the cells that would work as well.

The website for the add-in I am using is below.

    http://www.rondebruin.nl/table.htm

    Thanks for any advice!

Why are you keen to retain merged cells? Especially considering that they are causing you grief.

Best to format your sheet without merged cells if possible.

Don't use merged cells. They cause more trouble than they are worth.

Use formatting and text alignment instead and keep your sanity.

For the horizontal merged "look" use "center across selection". For the vertical merged look use text boxes that is set to grow and shrink with cells.

First off, thanks for the quick response!

Trust me, I would love to do away with the merged cells. However, the data is generated from (may not be technically correct) an AIX platform using JCL files against recorded data, and then exports data to a .html file. This file is then opened up in excel to manipulate the data.

Attached is a sample of the output I get, and the worksheets on the bottom are what I want to accomplish. The last worksheet would work too, I just need to find out i guess if I can get the output to do this from the beginning.

Besides that there is not much I can do once I receive the html file. The output is 20000+ rows of data, and is very intensive to try and sort the mess.

    Thanks!
