    excel template wizard

My computer was recently upgraded from Windows 98 and excel 97 to windows
2000 and microsoft office professional 2003. I had created an employee
status form in excel 97 linked to a database in excel 97. Since the upgrade
to excel 2003 when I open a saved copy of an employee status it says 'cannot
open template wizard'. Consequently any new status' I type and save are no
longer updating the database. Thinking the template wizard was an 'option'
that was not installed by my company, I went online to get it. According to
the info at micorsoft, the template wizard is no longer a standard part of
the program and can be installed separately. However, the most recent
download available is for 2002. I downloaded this anyway and double clicked
to auto install. But I'm still getting the same message. Help! my employee
database is no longer useful without this wizard. Where can I get it and how
can I get it on my computer.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Re: excel template wizard

    Thank you! This helped.
FYI to anyone else who encounters this problem. I had already gone to the
microsoft site, downloaded and installed this but it didn't work. The
download is an .exe file, when you double click it auto installs. Problem
is, it installs so fast you don't know where it installed the template file
to. After searching thru the office folders I found that the self install
placed the template file into the Add-ins folder, which seems logical.
However, the template wizard didn't work until I put a copy of it in the
    Library folder.

So thank you very much, again.

When you click on the "download" and given the choice of Run or Save, click
Save and you are given a chance to save in the folder of your choice.

The downloaded TMPLWIZ.EXE will be in that folder.

    Re: excel template wizard

Did you unzip to the Officexx\Library?

I just ran the file as an executable...double-click and "Run"

Try selecting the Template Wizard with Data Tracking from Tools>Add-ins.

I get the Template Wizard on the Data menu.

BUT...........then it doesn't work for me either.

I get an error message that "You cannot run template wizard while Excel is
    embedded in another application"

    Don't know what that's about???

Ron de Bruin has posted about this problem in another(private) news group.

Perhaps he has some more information.

    Ron, where are you?
