my company has just upgraded from the old excel to 2010 and it has been nothing problems (mostly cause all my bosses are over 50 and cant take changes lol)

the only problem i have not been able to solve is a page break problem. We have a workbook we send to our client every month, we had the page breaks so so it would print on two pages in landscape. with the conversion all the page breaks reset. no problem there, i went in a reset them all and saved the document. when you go to page break preview, it shows properly, i go to print preview it shows properly (only 2 pages). I hit the print button and 8 pages print and when i go back to the sheet all the breaks are reset again.

has anyone else had this problem? anyone know any fixes?

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
It seems to me that Excel behavior is such that, if the page setup dialog is set to "Fit to" (eg. 1 page wide by 2 pages tall) and you then try to adjust the page breaks, they won't "stick". Instead, try clicking on the other setting in page setup ("Adjust to") and then try your page break adjustments, save 'em, and then print.
Also, consider ensuring you have the desired range set for your print area. If your print area for some reason exceeds the boundary of your usable data range, then Excel will try to include and print that extra area AND will produce extra pages in the process.
This is a shot in the dark, but I offer it in good faith.
Larry.

Was there any progress on this, I have a customer who just got a new printer and is experiencing the same problem with page breaks resetting when they click print, the only difference is that they are already set to "adjust to" in the page setup.

No, i had to completly rebuild this sheet from scratch to get it to work. I have also had other sheets that were working fine start screwing up, each cell would print on its own page. I started printing everything to pdf first before sending to the printer.

I have a user with a similar problem. She is using Excel 2007 via Citrix due to a third party application she needs to be using. I had her close all other files, but this one not terribly huge sheet in a 3 sheet workbook insists on putting 3 cells per page - so the entire Page Break view is covered in horizontal dashed lines, AND it tells her the margins are not big enough BUT it also wont let us access the margin dialog to FIX them. No, it is not secured, at least not that I have been prompted with so far. It is highly sensitive data so she can't send it out.

Any new thoughts?

The only thing that seemed to work was copying everything to a new spreadsheet. Thankfully after you do that once it seems to work. I also found in a pinch printing to cute pdf works and then printing. So it must have to do with the driver and excel communications

I have this same problem. It's infurating. I have used excel for over 20 years. Never had this waste of productivity issue until the last year and a half. You get your spreadsheet in printview set up exactly how it should be and hit print - and "BOOM" excel does what it wants, changes your print margins to wherever it wants and wastes about 5 times as much paper, and jumps back to your spreadsheet with your print margins moved. --I do just like you do - save my work and save again as a PDF - and print the PFD --Major waste of time - Blair

Hi Arlene - in case you read these - one step i don't do is copy everything to a new spread sheet. I just use my original sheet, use page view, set my margins and save. And then save again as a PDF - and print that PDF. I never hit print from the excel sheet anymore if it has important margins on something I need now - not in 5 more minutes...UGH...Blair
