Pie chart and percent data label issue

    Hello all.
This is also posted here: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-misc...ata-label.html

I have a pie chart that simply displays total number of items and number of remaining items. I have the percentages manually calculated but wanted the pie chart to also display the percentages. The problem is that when I select Format Data Series, Data Labels, Percentage...the percent displayed on the chart is incorrect. For example, I set up a test chart with 100 total items with 50 items remaining. The calculated percentage is 50% but the pie chart is displaying 33.33% which is obviously incorrect. Anyone know how to correct the pie chart percentages?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Hi, no need to post the same question twice. Double posting is not liked in this forum.

can you upload a workbook with the test chart? When you say 100 total items and 50 items remaining, the pie chart should have two data points of 50 each, 50 for <whatever> and 50 for "remaining" so the total of the pie chart is 100, and the percentage of "remaining" is 50%.

I have a feeling that your pie chart has two data points, one being 100 and the other being 50, because then, the percentage of the "remaining 50" will indeed be 33%, because the total of the pie chart will be 150

    Do you see it?

Thanks teylyn!! I thought the chart would calculate the % just like I did manually which was # complete divided-by total #. Works now.
