using PROPER... function not working...what am I doing wrong?

I have an excel spreadsheet I want to make multiple columns of data change all from all caps to just the first letter of each word caps. I tried using the PROPER function as directed but it's not working.. I can only get it to do the function for one cell at a time. I put in to go from A1:A798. It only does A1. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello iriea,

    Welcome to the Forum!

It would help to know if you are using a formula or VBA code.

I'm not sure what I'm using to be honest... I guess I'm using a formula?

I go up to "insert", then "function", then choose "PROPER", then the box pops up to put the range on cells & I click/highlight the whole column I want changed. It only changes the first cell...

    Hello iriea,

You are using a worksheet formula. I am moving your post to the Worksheet Functions forum for further assistance.

You do not use a range of cells in the function like you do with Sum functions

    use
    =PROPER(A1)
then drag the formula down the column
The cell reference will change as the formula is dragged down

When you select the cell with the formula, you will notice a small square at the lower right-hand corner.

Put the mouse cursor on the square, it will turn to a +

Click and drag down, noticing that the selection rectangle is growing as you drag.
