    Adding 'Symbol' Font toolbar button

I am engineering student and use the greek symbols ('symbol font') very often in excel.

Can I have a 'symbol' font toolbar button separately, so that once I click on it, the text will be changed to appropriate geek characters.

In MS Word, the customize toolbar -> Command ->category has a separate 'Fonts' section in which I can choose any font I need as a separate button. Excel does not have this facility?

If So, how to get separate 'Symbol' font button in toolbar?

Do you want this button to simply convert the active cell to font symbol or to actually present Greek symbols like Character map?

You want to insert the following macro into a module
    Alt F11
    Insert>Module
Copy and paste this code into module screen
Close Editor (no need to save)
This code will change all selected cells to symbol font

CB is an appropriate geek character

CC's answer is better as it allows you to freely toggle back and forth by clicking on the button.

How to apply it to all the spreadsheets? I would like to make it work for any excel sheet. Is it possible?

You would need to stick the code in either you personal.xls or more likely create an Addin.

Why not use the Font Name dropdown box. Admittedly an extra click/scroll but it is available to all spreadsheets.

Re: Adding 'Symbol' Font toolbar button

    Thanks! this is nice.
This code changes the entire text in a cell to symbol. Is it also possible to edit only selected characters? for example in the following gm2, where the 'g' is written as a symbol.
    Thanks for helping!!
