Updating Excel Files...Old Template to New Template???

I Have a number(30+) of excel files based off of one template. I have since updated the template, thus making the the old ones obsolete. Is there a way to update the older files to use the new template without having to copy and paste the addition's row by row column by column?

None of the additions to the template will change the placement of existing data, nor will it change the data itself. It will however add Values to cells that were previously empty.

    Hints, Tricks, or Ideas?

    James

    Hi,

How about on the new one click the little square in the upper left corner adjacent to row 1/column A to select the entire sheet, then click the paintbrush icon, then click on the old sheet in cell A1.

    Does that work for you?

Unfortunately that does not work. But thanks for your input.

It does not copy over the new headings or new formulas. It just copies the formatting for the text and the colors.

    Any other ideas?

Certainly They are Below. The differences between them are the new headings and formulas in columns A, Q, R, AP, AQ.

All those columns display is a value based on weather or not there is other data in the row. They dont change, or modify existing data.

    Anyone have an Idea?

    Hi,

You can use the Editing button > Find and Select > Special > Formulas, right click > copy, then go to the old sheet, click cell A1, paste special > Formulas. This will paste all formulas from the new sheet to the old.

As for the heading, just copy the top row and paste to the old sheets

    Chippy,

I have five columns with formulas, and When i ask it to copy all five formulas as you described, and then go to paste special...it pastes the five formulas in the first five columns, which then throws the #!Value error across all the cells in that 5 column span...

OK lets start again, try this

On the new one click the little square in the upper left corner adjacent to row 1/column A to select the entire sheet, then click the same square on the old sheet right click > paste special > formats.

Repeat but paste special > formulas

Then for the headings just copy row 1 and paste to the old sheet

Right, I've just done this in 2007

On the new one click the little square in the upper left corner adjacent to row 1/column A to select the entire sheet, then click the same square on the old sheet right click > paste special > formats.

Select column A (New), copy, select column A (old), paste special > formulas

Repeat for columns Q, R, AP, AQ

Then for the headings just copy row 1 and paste (All) to the old sheet (this should include the formatting as well, but for some reason the row height does not change, so adjust to same height to 16.5)
