Unable to Copy Cells and Paste as Picture in Word

In Microsoft Excel, I used to be able to select a group of cells and then paste it into Word as a Picture (both windows metafile and enhanced metafile). But now when I do this, it simply pastes nothing.

If I just do a regular paste (using ctrl+v) it will paste the cells as per normal, so I know that my clipboard is working. And mysteriously, if I log in to an administrator account (on the same computer) instead of a user privileges restricted one, I am able to paste cells as Picture in Word perfectly.

Does anybody know why this is the case? I'm using Office 2003 with the 2007 comptaiblity program installed and running Win Xp Pro SP3.

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
You did not say how you are copying the cells, so I guess that you may have used Ctrl +C.
I use both 2003 and 2007 and prefer to copy 'as a picture' in these circumstances.
In 2003, if you hold down the Shift key and select Edit, you will get different menu options - one of which is "Copy Picture". I would select that and choose "As shown when printed" - but of course there are other options.

Hi Derek, I was using Ctrl+C.

Thanks for your neat tip about the shift click on EDIT. If I choose the "Copy Picture" and then "as Shown on Screen" and then select Bitmap, my copy and paste is successful. If I choose anything else, for example "as shown as printed", I will still have the same problem.

But with this method, I can clearly see in my office clipboard, that only when I choose Bitmap, will I get the excel cells previewed properly. All other options in the "Copy Picture" will lead to a "Preview Not Available" in the Office Clipboard.

That is unusual.
I have both 2003 and 2007 installed.
Ctrl + C will give me "preview not available" in both versions but only if I copy empty cells - if a cell has content then it does appear.
All the other options (as available in the 2003 Shift/Edit/Copy Picture) do appear as expected in the clipboard even if the cells have no content.
This is also described in the following link:

Yes it is most unusual. Even more unusual is that, everything is fine when I log in to a user account with administrator priviledges. I have managed to operate normally in Excel and Word Flawlessly in both user restricted and full administrator privileges for years.

I'm trying to figure out is it because Excel cannot create pictures due to some user priviledges restriction issue.

I ran into a similar problem where the "Copy & Paste Special" features stopped working in my MS Office 2010 apps.

I scoured the internet for a solution and discovered what the root cause and solution are. I'm sharing this because I was very skeptical until I proved it to myself. First, I confirmed that the "Advanced" settings related to copy & paste were correct. I then grew increasingly worried that my MS Office installation (or core templates) may have become corrupted.

Believe it or not, this stems from an issue with the Skype "Click-to-Call" plug-in for Chrome. I narrowed down when the "Copy & Paste Special" feature stopped working to just after I installed an upgrade for this Skype plug-in.

I uninstalled the Skype plug-in and now all of the "Copy & Paste Special" features work again.
