Corrupt password protected excel file

I'm hoping one of the experts here will be able to save me stacks of work.....

An excel file of mine became corrupt for no obvious reason, after following numerous 'manual' guides for recovery I began trying pay for software demo versions to see if it would be worth the money to recover my file - they don't work either.

As far as I can work out the issue is with the password protection, but as I can't get into the file (I get an 'unable to read file' message) I can't remove the password, and without doing that it appears I can't recover any of the data.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

If it helps, the file is saved in excel 2003, the password is required to open the file.

Thanks in advance.

Control Word Wrap
Press Alt+Enter to move to a new row in a cell. Lets you control where the words wrap.
Thanks, I thought that might be the case. Understandable, but frustrating!

Thanks for the links, had already found and tried those, I think I am going to have to give up on it.

For future reference, can anyone advise me if the password protection has a bearing on the corrupt state I now find the spreadsheet in? I.e. should I ditch the password on the recreated spreadsheet in order to avoid a similar problem? I've worked with excel for years and never had anything corrupt so would be useful to know if I can stop it happening again.

Thank you.

The password shouldn't be the problem. There's most likely an underlying cause in the workbook, although corruption is always hard to track down.

I'd see if you can restore a backup from somewhere.
