I wish to convert a number to a degree using the Tan function

the example given is
opposite side of triangle 333/ adjacent side 769
equals .43
TAN(0.43) = 23.27degrees

I tried it on a calculator -- no good
so I tried it in Excel -- same -- I got .458621
but not in degrees. ( I thought TAN gave degrees ? )
I'm mathematically challenged as it's a long time since I was at school
could some kind person show me the way please

thanks Keith

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.

If 333 is in cell A1 and 769 is in cell A2:

=DEGREES(ATAN(A1/A2))

or

=ATAN(A1/A2)*180/PI()
