row height & col width in inches

I want to change the height and width of cells using INCHES, and some versions of excel do allow inches, but other versions use # of characters. How do I switch from # of characters to inches, for specifying row height and column width? Thanks.

    Hi,

I doubt that you can, but see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...517241033.aspx

I would not be able to figure why anyone would use a mac setting on a windows pc, but from memory Excel on Windows has not used Inches for row height since Excel '97.

Excel 2007 will display column width or row height in inches if you go to View > Workbook Views > Page Layout.

Re: row height & col width in inches

I highlighted the rows and columns that I want to use. For instance, I wanted a layout of 24 x 36 cells, each with a column width and row height of 0.25" to represent a 24" x 36" canvas. I selected 'Page Layout' . While still in Page Layout I clicked on the HOME tab. I right-clicked in the selected area, went to format cells, and used inches. I could not get this drop down menu unless I transferred to the HOME tab.
