    Entering Formula without Equal Sign?

    Experts:

I have a file in which on one of the tabs an equal sign is placed in front if numbers are entered. For instance, if I type "1/1/07" in the cell, instead of a date being entered, excel is putting an equal sign out front so it actually divides 1/1/07 giving a real small number.

There are other worksheets in this workbook, but they don't have this issue. I can't figure out what is going on. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello RealEstateFinan,

The sheet has been set up for Lotus 1-2-3 emulation. On the menu bar under Tools, select the tab Transition. At the bottom you will see an area marked Sheet Options. Click the check box labeled Transition formula entry to clear it.

    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

    Hi Leith,

Thank you very much for this. In Excel 2010, you need to click on File, Options, Advanced. Then go all the way down to the bottom and you will get to Transition formula entry. Tick the box next to it.
