Question Unable to Enable Macros in .xlsm File

    Hi everyone,

I have just installed Office 2007 Professional on my PC at work, and saved my Excel 2003 files as Macro-Enabled workbooks -- especially for the increased limits for conditional formatting.

When I open the file, macros are disabled and the Message Bar appears with the following: "Security Warning Macros are disabled." When I clicked Options on the Message Bar, the security dialog box that opens shows only "Help protect me from unknown content" with the radio button selected, but the "Enable this content" and "Trust all documents from this publisher" are not shown -- neither are they in the Trust Centre Settings.

Furthermore, when I click Developer tab, Design Mode is enabled, but I am unable to disable it.

Why is the option to enable macros not available, and how can I enable macros.

    Thank you,
    Gos-C

    Hey Gos,

Macro security has changed with Excel 2007. I don't like the new set-up, but here is a path to your macro options.

From the "Office Button" (BIG circle button in the top left) choose
    Excel Options
Trust Center (in the left pane)
    Trust Center Settings...
Macro Settings (in the left pane)

I also could not disable "Design Mode" from the Developer menu. However, this morning I have a sheet open with no macros and the "Design Mode" button is not active nor is it available to select. Not really an answer, just letting you know how it is acting on my end.

    Hope it helps, Brade

I do have same problem and done as per above instruction but no luck.Whenn I try to open macro enable (.xlsm) file it gives me error " excel canot open the file *.xlsm because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has been corrupted and that the file extenstion matches the format of the file.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Unable to Enable Macros in .xlsm File

If the radio buttons aren't available then there must be a problem with the installation. I suggest you try a repair by running the installation files

    Excel2007 Enable macros Screenshot

As with using the Trusted Folder Option, never use it unless you trust the authors'code. It'slike setting macro Security to Low
    Hope that helps.
