Basically I want to import an XML file into excel to change a certain number and then save or export it back again.

However when I try to Data>XML>Export or when I try to save as an XML file I get the following message:

"Cannot save or export XML data. The XML maps in this workbook are not exportable."

Can someone help me with this? Many thanks

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
You want to change only one number? Can you provide more information - perhaps even a sample of the xml data and any accompanying DTD or schema? Could you just open it with a text editor and change the number that way?

Thanks xenou,
yes basically I want to load the xml into excel, export it out as an xml file after changing just one or 2 numbers. I want to be able to do this all in excel, so that it is automated (eg, not in a text editor).

A sample of the code that I would use is this one: http://www.sportpunter.com/nhl/SalesCompare.xml

Thanks

What criteria determines what is changed? Can you give a few examples?

basically I wasnt to load that xml file in excel, change the number "12731.17" to "12000.00" and then save the file as an xml file.

I obviously know how to chang the number, just a matter of saving/exporting the file as an xml file.

Okay, but you'll have to work out the XML mapping. I'm not sure I understand why you need a "big" program like Excel to do such a very simple job. Can you explain anymore?

Do you have the XML DTD or Schema that goes with the original XML file?

It's really two problems, to me - one, is there a way to map this XML document, or two, is there another way to do this (being such a simple text editing task, after all). I'm willing to take a stab at both - I think we need the DTD or schema for the former (how else will Excel now how to markup the elements?)
