Excel Facts

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Sort A-Z

Then copy and paste the specific items directly into the place where you them to be.

I can not be very sure as I have not used Excel 2007 but I am 100% sure that copying/pasting or even typing directly in pivot tables works in Excel 2003 as long as the value you are pasting/typing is one of the items.

thanks for your time patsys...
i did answer in my previous post how to accomplish this in excel 2007...i just could not find it documented anywhere..it's done by right clicking...however you can not move a sub set if you have used outline/groups outside the parent...or move a parent by selecting an item in a subset. you can rearrange the orders within the subsets by selecting a subset item and right clicking

i did go back and try your suggestions... you can copy any in cell in a pivot table in excel 2007 however you can not paste to any cell..
or even in the formula bar...

add to previous post.... you can move any item by right clicking within the column anywhere with in the column as long as a parent item is selected

I was trying to do the same thing and rapidly becoming very frustrated with the very limited help that Excel provides. I found this post - thanks for the tip... but I also figuered out the way that MS intended for this magical drag functionality to work.

If you click on the column (or row) header that you'd like to move, the cell will be highlighted. Roll your cursor around the edge of the cell until your cursor changes into the picture of a miniture uni-directional arrow. Right-Click once and the entire column will be highlighted. Once the column is highlighted, again, roll your cursor around the edge of the highlighted column until your cursor changes into a 4-directional arrow. Right-click and hold... this will allow you to drag the entire column to a different place.

Shame on MS for such terrible help instructions!
