"The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following:

-Click a single cell, and then paste

-Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape and then paste"

I need to bypass this message. How?!?

I've tried both of the options given (single cell and rectangle) and neither have worked. I've tried the formatting tool which also give the same error message. Help!

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
If your selected (copied) region is a complete column, you have to choose to paste to either a full column (by selecting the whole column) or select a single cell in row 1 of a column in the spreadsheet.
If you copied an entire row, you have to flip the logic 90 degrees:) and paste to either 1 or more complete rows, or to a single cell in column 1 of a given row.
Does that resolve the problem?

After some tinkering, I realized that I had spaced- I grouped some sheets together and needed to ungroup them before pasting a selection into the same workbook. Thanks so much for your suggestions though!

I am having this same problem. I want to copy A1.A100,000 form one 2007 workbook to another in cells A20001.A120000. The sizes are the same and neither have any merged cells or alignment issues that I can see.

Please help!!!

Thank you,

Wes

Make sure you are ONLY selecting the cells you want to paste, not the entire columns. Make sure the workbook is not in compatibility mode (which will limit the number of columns and rows even if you're using 2007). Copy just the cells with the desired data, then select only cell A20001, then paste. If that doesn't work, I don't have any other ideas.
Hope this helps...

Maybe you have a filtered area active? Deactivate filter and try again.

One way this issue occurs is when the pasted region would be greater than the size of the worksheet. For example, my worksheet is capped at 1,048,576 rows, so any paste that would lead to rows greater than that produces the described error.
