    Smile Slab Utilization in Excel.

    Hi,
Would it be possible to make macro in Excel, to utilize granite slabs.
I work at the project, and usually I got slab which is different size. I recieve the sizes of the granite worktops, and I need to draw the drawing and fit in that way the worktops one the slab to reach the best usage of the slab.
Another words I need to do the best utilization of the slab. sometimes i need to use 2 or 3 or more. The point is to use as small as possible.
Is it possible to do such a thing in excel, or do you think differet program will be better ?

It is likely possible to make the calculations in Excel, but you would need to provide a basic worksheet with sample data and tell us the details about what consitutes the best utilization. I assume you are looking for area measurements.

That's right. The maximal use of the slab surface for cuts.
I think it is quite impossible, as I always get different siezes of the worktops.
I mean sth you can enter the data for size of the slab, then you enter sizes of worktops how many u got, and it calculates you the best fit and how many slabs u need.

Post a sample workbook with representative data.

I think you could to this following this basic process which, admittedly, needs refinement:
    1. Calculate area for raw slab size
    2. Match the area value to a look up table that matches first best fit to given counter size
    3. Calculate remaining area and attempt a further match
    4. Repeat until no match can be made

Unknown: what is the basic shape of the raw slab: rectangular, square-ish, etc. this could affect how you go about making the match, but, I think, can be dealt with.

Can't do more until you provide the required details.

    Usually the slabs are:
    rectangular
    3050mm x 2000mm, 3050mm x 1400mm, - this is surface we can use.

You could try setting up a program in Solver to find best scenario, but to your point, a dynamic has to be set up for the raw slab shapes.

I'm not sure what you mean and this doesn't seem to have much to do with the original question about how to maximize slab utilization.

You haven't provided any real details about your process, sample workbook, etc., so it's a bit difficult to make suggestions or answer your question.
