Excel Pivot Table will not sort in spite of advanced field settings

I have a pivot table that does not seem to follow my instructions to sort alphabetically. I have tried going into field settings and advanced to set the sort ascending by Div. It still sees MON before CAL as seen below.

I even deleted the pivot table and rebuilt it resulting in same sort as before.

I also sorted the data source to independently from the pivot table. The data source sorts the Div in the correct order.

Is there some other way to set the pivot table sort order besides field settings and advanced? Thanks for any helpful tips.

Excel thinks MON is short for Monday. The same sort of thing happens with month names. I'm not sure of a solution other than avoiding those 3 character abbreviations.

I don't know if it siuts your needs, but if you add a space to the end of the 'MON' data in the underlying source, your table should sort correctly.

Great idea.

One observation to share. By only adding a space after MON, it sorted MON to the very end of my sorted list instead of at the beginning. So, I wrote a macro to add a space after each Division. By doing so, all sorted in the right order. I really appreciate the tips!

I came here today because I was having a similar problem. I was sorting by last name and someone named "May" kept going to the top. I fixed it by right clicking on the field and choosing sort, more sort options, click Ascending, then more sort options (the button this time), then choosing "normal" sort order. This way you don't have to "change" your data.

I have another sorting problem with this particular pivot table, so back I go into the boards.
