I have two 12 hour shifts and there are two pay scales. The pressmen receive a night shift premium from 7pm-6am. Their shifts are 6pm to 6am, and the other shift is 6am - 6pm. How do I seperate the hours worked between regular and premium without manually doing it? I want to put in the hours worked and formulas calculate it out for me (if possible).
Thank you

Hello Ryan, welcome to MrExcel,

If you have start time in A2 and end time in B2 then this formula in C2 will calculate hours worked between 06:00 and 19:00

=(A2>B2)*MEDIAN(0,B2-1/4,13/24)+MAX(0,MIN(19/24,B2+(A2>B2))-MAX(1/4,A2))

Then in D2 to get the rest of the hours (premium rate)

=MOD(B2-A2,1)-C2

Thank you so much. The first formula worked!! It is showing that the person worked 1 hour (.04) in regular time, but the second formula In D2 is showing that he worked -12 hours (-.50). The shift worked was 12 hours, with one hour under regular, and the rest 11 hours under the premium. Hopefully you can direct me in the right direction.
Thank you,

I have a couple more questions. If I wanted to calculate overtime, for both the regular and premium in separate columns, how would I have that? Also, for both the regular and premium columns, what would I add to the formula if I wanted to have a max number. If they went over a total 8 or 12 hours then in the regular or premium column, the highest it would go would be 8 or 12, and the overages go to the overtime column.
Thank you,
