I have a shared excel 2003 workbook and upon opening it advises that the file is in use, locked for editing and gives me the option to open the file as a 'read only' file. All users who have access to this workbook are not viewing the file and it has been in this state for 4 days. I have checked the properties of this file and the 'Read Only' box is not checked.

Could someone please help me out with how I can unlock this file

Thanks

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
thanks stormseed.

I haves een these links and they more or less tell me how to set it up but not how to rectify this issue. Also as I can only open the file as read only I cannot update the share workbook options.

Are you sure the file is not opened by anyone else on the network ?

Least you could try to end the process tree of Excel on Windows --> Reboot your computer and try to access it again. Just do it and see what happens. Let us know the outcome, we could try some more things to rectify the issue.

Hi Stormseed

There was some maintenance done on the network which required a bounce of the server which has cleared the lock on this workbook.

Thanks for your help with this.
