    Convert stones and lbs to kg

    G'day guys,

    Pretty much a novice when it comes to Excel, but I'm hoping you can help me out here.

    What I want is to enter my weight in stones and pounds into one cell, then in another cell have that converted to kgs so I can display a chart.

    I've tried a few things, but nothing working thus far. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Thommo

    If A1 contains stones abd B1 pounds, =A1*6.35 + B1*0.454
    Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

    Hi Thommo,

    how would you enter stones and pounds into one cell? I'm not familiar with the imperial system, so I don't know how that will be expressed in decimals. But if you have stones in A1 and pounds in B1, and if I'm not mistaken, there are 14 pounds in a stone, you can use

    =convert((A1*14)+B1,"lbm","g")/1000

    does that help?

    Hi guys,

    Many thanks for the speedy replies. What I'm trying to achieve is basically the reverse of this:

    Thanks,

    Can you explain what your input will be? Maybe in an example file?

    A1 = 10 (stone)
    B1 = 10 (lbs - not sure how halves or fractions would work here)
    C1 = Conversion to kg

    Hope this helps,
    Thommo

    So, what more do you need? There are two suggestions already.

    Okay, stay with me here (numbers isn't my strong point).

    The conversion throws up a slightly different result than the following web site's converter:

    http://www.ukmicentral.nhs.uk/resour...onvert=Convert

    Any ideas? (I'm entering 10 for both stone and pounds.)

    Cheers,
    T

    Re: Convert stones and lbs to kg

    Well, AFAIK

    1 pound = 0.45359237

    so 10 stone = 140 lb
    and 10 stone 10 lb = 150 lb
    so 150*0.45359237 = 68.0388555
    rounded to 68.04

    That's the result I get in several other web calculators, the result that shg's formula delivers and the result that my suggestion delivers. I'd wager the NHS have it wrong or they're using slightly heavier pounds .
