How can I type a number with zeros in front ie 00345 and save sheet as a CSV keeping the 00's showing. I have made the cell a text cell which works fine in Excel but when I save as a CSV file it changes and the zeros disappear.

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
You can leave it as a number, you just need to put a ' before the number for example '001954

Give that a go, not sure how it will work when changed to csv

Have tried your solution which is fine when saving as an Excel file but as soon as you save as a CSV file it changes and the zeros disappear.

Hi Chris,

First, change the Format of the cells to TEXT. Then enter all the data with prefixed zeros. Next, Save the File with the "save as type": Text(Tab Delimited Text) in the dropwon available in File - Save As option.

When you open the file in Notepad it will have all the prefixed zeros.

PS: When you want to open the File in Excel then you just need to change the extension of the file to ".xls".
