How do I deal with the message - "operation requires merged cells to be identically sized?"
The universal answer is, don't merge cells.
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate
I did not knowingly merge any cells. So how do I find the 'merged cells?'
I see that when I ask this question on the internet it comes up as this being 'the most frustrating error message in Excel.'
I have 8,000 rows and 50 columns and have been working on this workpage for a year and have had no problems.
and the answer received on the internet is to identify the problem area and use the text alignment tool under text control to merge the cells.
but that just merges all the cells in that area into one cell in the upper left-hand corner.
that is not a solution.
Select all the cells (click the rectangle at the intersection of the row and column headers), Format > Cells, Alignment tab, clear Merge cells
Just wanted to say thank you everyone for this thread! I had been working in frustration trying to sort a list for about an hour until I found this. You just made my day.
