How to convert Word table with paragraphing to Excel?

    How to convert Word table with paragraphing to Excel?

    Is there any way to convert a Word table that has multiple paragraphs in each
    cell to Excel without going through a third-party converter? I have several
    hundred rows to convert, and copying and pasting each paragraph into the
    Excel Workbook is not a viable option. The Table to Text tool in Word also
    doesn't give me control over the paragraphing. With everything I've tried,
    each paragraph winds up in a separate row in Excel.

    Saved from a previous post:

    If your cells in your word table contain paragraph mark or linebreak characters,
    then excel will bring them over as separate cells.

    One way around it is to convert those paragraph marks & linebreaks to unique
    characters, then copy|paste and then convert them back to linefeeds.

    I like this technique (inside a copy of the word file):
    Select your table.
    Edit|replace|Special (show More if required)
    Find what: (paragraph mark under Special button)
    replace with: $$$$$ (if $$$$$ doesn't appear in the table)
    replace all

    Same thing with Manual Line break (from under Special).

    Now copy the table into Excel.

    Edit|Replace
    Replace what: $$$$$
    Replace with: hit and hold the alt and type 0010 from the number pad--not above
    QWERTY.

    It may look like you haven't done anything, but if you did it right, you
    replaced $$$$$ with alt-enter.
    Replace all.

    Don't forget to close the word document without saving (or hit undo as many
    times as necessary).

    Perhaps even easier/quicker - Do the Find & Replace in Word to replace to
    substitute Manual Line Breaks (^l) for Paragraph Marks (^p). When you copy &
    paste the table thecell content will match up cell for cell instead of
    getting separated.

    When I did that, each new line within the cell in the MSWord table still went to
    a new cell in excel.

    I think the OP wanted those lines all within the same excel cell (separated by
    alt-enters).

    Curious- I confirmed the technique before I posted & had perfect results
    using '03. Are you perhaps using a different version? |:>)

    No, your technique doesn't work in Excel 2003 for me either.

    I used Office 2003, but it doesn't work in xl2002 or xl2k or xl97 (if my memory
    serves me correctly).
