Changing negative numbers to positive, vice versa

We have a spreadsheet with data downloaded from our mainframe.
We would like to change the negative numbers, which have a negative
sign before the number (i.e. -9.56), to positive numbers (i.e. ($9.56)).
Then we need to change the positive numbers to negative numbers.
Plus, we have a LARGE amount of data....

Can anyone help us?

Any suggestions? HELP!!!
 

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
Sort by date Sort by votes
In a cell off to the side, enter -1 and choose Edit>Copy. Now select all the cells with your data and choose Edit>Paste Special. Select the multply by option and click OK

OK

Place in any cell -1 lets say in H1
Then press Copy
Then select your entire range of numbers and Paste Special choosing Multiply option.
That will turn the sign of any number.
