Hi guys,
I have a column of dates initially inputted in text format (25/Jan/2010) and I need to change the format to date (25-Jan-2010).
I change the whole columns format using "Format cells..", however the format does not change until I click on every cell and click Enter afterwards. As there are over 200 entries is there a faster way to change them all at once?

Thanks a lot!

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Try Data - Text To Columns
Deliminated - Next
Next
Select Date - DMY
Finish

Hope that helps.

Try using Text-To-Columns on that column. Be sure to set the Date dropbox to DMY.

It sounds as though the original format was text.

Personally I have not found a way to change the format as you describe when originally formatted as Text.

All I can suggest is change the format back to Text and highlight the whole column.

From Edit, choose Find and then bring teh replace section up.

Choose `/` as find, and
choose `-` as replace.

In addition to my post above, select the column and change the format to Date.

Should work fine from there onwards.
