How Do I Sort While Keeping Integrity Of The Rest Of The Sheet
How Do I Sort While Keeping Integrity Of The Rest Of The Sheet Excel

How do I sort but have the other data move with the column I'm sorting? Whenever I sort, for example, by name, the address and phone numbers columns stay the same and are therefore incorrect with the newly sorted columns. I've looked everywhere.

My question is this I have a large spreadsheet with multiple columns of information. I want to sort it by a certain column. I know how to do this. My question is, once I'm done with my work I want to sort it back to the original "sort" but I'm not sure how they have it sorted. I've tried to figure out how they have it sorted but can't. Is there some way to go back to the original sort?
Thank you for your anticipated help.

Hi,
Can someone please help? I've got quite a lot of data that I want to sort
by the persons date of birth, but because I have cells with formula in it
(this works out the persons age) the sort function is changing the formulas
so the formulas no longer work becuase it changes the cell where it is
getting the data from. Does anyone have any ideas how this could be fixed??
Thanks!

I am having trouble with a sort. I would like a list sorted descending, so that the highest dollar amount is at the top. However, if there are blanks or zeros in the list, it is putting those first. How do I get it to ignore them or put them at the bottom?
Thank you,

Hi all,
I'm looking for help in building a formula which will sort numbers into different "buckets". My spreadsheet has a range of values in column B. These values can range anywhere from 100,000,000 to +10,000,000. I'd like to be able to sort them into the following buckets:

I have attached a schedule for shift allowance calculation. The conditions for payment are as follows:
3 & 4 shifts = 15% Basic
2 shifts = 10% Basic
If on leave for 21 working days or more, no shift allowance
If on leave for less than 21 working days and on 3 or 4 shifts, shift allowance prorated as (Basic*15%)/21*(diff. btw 21 and no of days leave observed)
If on leave for less than 21 working days and on 2 shifts, shift allowance prorated as (Basic*10%)/21*(diff. btw 21 and no of days leave observed)
The formular I used in the attached worked but the only problem is that I had to sort by no. of shifts and adjust the formular first. I need A formular that does not require sorting. I tried to combine IF, AND, OR formulae but I got error. Please assist me sort this out. Thanks a bunch.

i know how to use the data filters vertically but have been wondering if its possible to filter data horizontally so i could put a filter on, say column c and sort the data across the sheet rather than down. if its not possible i will find another way to do what i want but this seems to be just what i would need. does anyone know if it can be done?
Hi,
I am entering lots of family history data into a spreadsheet. At the simplest I have columns (in cells A1 B1 C1) the headings, Surname, Forename, Year. Right now, I enter in cells A2 B2 and C2 say: Smith <Tab> John <Tab> 1555 <Enter, move mouse to the A column in the next row down). What I want to happen is when I have entered the last data in a row and pressed <Enter> I move automatically to the Acolumn in the next row down.
Is this possible?
Regards and a Merry Christmas to all

Hello from sunny Madrid
I have created a complex formula to help me calculating Golf handicaps for players.
The formula is in the first cell and I want to drag the formula across to the right to cover the 18 holes.
But ALL the values change and I want some to change and some to stay constant.
How do I tell excel to drag the formula across but keep certain parts of the formula the same..ie ....=D11.... in the formula when dragged across doesn't go D12,D13;D14 in each cells formula and should stay as D11 for all.
Many thanks for your help
Ole

Hi there, longtime user firsttime poster. Looking for some help as I am a nonexpert with macros. Here's what I'm trying to do:
We have to submit things to a certain regulatory body and we usually enter tasks in as soon as they come, do the submission, and then keep a record of that submission.
So, I have a workbook with two sheets, one is "TO DO", the other is "ARCHIVE". Both sheets have the same columns and everything. I am looking for a macro that will automatically cut a (row) from the TO DO sheet and paste it in into the ARCHIVE sheet once it is done, then delete the cut row from the TO DO list so it stays topped up.
The trigger for archiving is the columns M and N which are titled "Complete ?" and each has a validation drop down that says "YES". When both cells in columns M and N have the YES in them, I would like the macro to make the above mentioned actions.
I ran a search on the forums and found something similar, but not quite what I was looking for.
Any help?

Hi peeps
I want to combine data from several worksheets into one worksheet.
For example, I have data in Sheet1 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet2 (Columns A,B,C), data in Sheet3 (Columns A,B,C) all with varying amounts of rows. (All the rows contain text data).
I need to combine all of the data from the 3 sheets into a single sheet, Sheet4 (Columns A,B,C), eliminating the empty rows.
I've been looking into this for a while, and can't find anything that really helps. Anyone got any pointers of what to look into?
Any help will be beautiful.
Cheers

is it possible to put two formulasinto one cell?
On the attached timesheet there are columns IN, OUT, IN,OUT
The lunch time is worked out by deducting 'C8 from C9' and this works fine when all 'IN, OUT' cells are filled in but for some reason when just the first two cells are filled in it gives a 12 hour answer.
looking at cell 'C11 ' in the attached worksheet, I currently have the formula
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9C8)) The reason for this is to make it look tidy by having blank cells until a calculation is needed,, My problem is, If someone just comes in for the morning one day for instance 8am to 12 noon then they won't have lunch, but C11 will show 12:00
Can I put another formula into C11 to tell it not to deduct C8 from C9 until a time is put into C9.
The following is the sort of thing (many variations) I have been trying but because I'm hopeless at formulas I'm not having any success
Thanks
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9C8))OR,IF(C9,ISBLANK,"",SUM(C9C8)

Hi All,
I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.
Many thanks,
Andy

I have and excel sheet that was a contact list apparently exported wrong and has the names and addresses all together in each cell in about 350 rows in column A, they are all in this format
john doe email address here
for some reason the email address in brackets won't show up here but each email address is in brackets
I need to get the name in one column and the email address without the brackets into another, any ideas?

Hi!
I have a question regarding filtering of columns, hopefully someone is able to put me on the right track. I have set up Excel 2007 so that I can click on the dropdown menu in each column to filter them.
However, in my data set there is one blank row separating two set of rows. Now, when I apply the filter on a column, all the rows above the blank row filter correctly, but all the rows below stay unfiltered.
I guess Excel only looks at the consequtive rows, then stops when it hits a blank row. Is there any way of applying the filter beyond a blank row (i.e. the whole column)?
Any advice is higly appreciated.

Hi,
I made a budget with many narrow columns and have turned the data into a table. I will only ever filter the data with the lefthand most column. However, all the other columns are filled each with the grey dropdown filter arrow button, and I can no longer see the headings of these columns and frankly seeing 50 little unused arrow buttons is rather ugly. Is there any way to simply remove the filter dropdown buttons on some columns or even all of them, just leaving a filter button at the heading of the first column? I know I can hide the headings, but then I lose sight of the first filter arrow that I use.
Sorry to ask such a bizarre question, but I appreciate your help.
Thanks

Hi
I am using Excel 2007 and suddenly I can no longer filter by color. The option is greyed out and so is the sort by Color option. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Thanks in advance.

I need to lock consecutive rows together before sorting. e.g. A1 contains a name and A2 is blank: B1 contains data related to name in A1 so does B2, and so on. Therefore need to lock rows 1 and 2 together, then 3 and 4 together and so on, but sorting on the data in the first cell of the group e.g. A1
