Converting Macros From Lotus 123 To Excel

Hi,

I have a user who is using Lotus 1-2-3 for last 20 years. His file extension is .wk1 so I am assuming thats Lotus version 1. The Lotus version is ancient to say the least.

His manager has been asking him to move over to Excel as other users in his dept has done so long time ago.

This user does not want to learn excel and he has two macros in Lotus which nobody else knows how to convert in excel.

The question is how can I convert macros from Lotus 123 .wk1 files to Excel. We are currently using Excel 2003 but I can get Excel 2000 or 2007 if that helps in converting the macros. Is there a tool/utility available that can help me?

Your help will be appreciated.

Is it possible to share a workbook with macros and have the macros work properly. I have one spreadsheet that needs to be shared by many users. We want to all be in the same document at the same time saving changes. The real catch is that the workbook has macros. I used the 'Share Workbook' function under tools. At the end of the setup, it told me that the macros would not work properly. The odd thing is that everytime I try to click on one of the macros I get an error, but yet the macro still performs the function. So essentially the macro works, it is just a pain because you have to click 'end' everytime on the error screen. Any suggestions?

I know this question has been asked a bajillion times, so I apologize for the redundancy.

I am working with an Excel spreadsheet and saving it as a .csv file in order to upload to an application that parses out the .csv data as transactions. The system requires .csv files, so this is how I need to save my doc (with this extension). I have been successful at preventing Excel from coverting that long number into scientific format. I have saved as a TXT file, pasted the longer number and it displays correctly. That is all good. But I have to save as a .csv. So if I do that, close the Excel window, and then open again (as the .csv file), the numbers are back to being displayed in scientific format. I have tried creating an Excel doc from scratch and entering text in Text format, to see if this created a cleaner file. But again, the second I save as .csv, close the window and then open that file up again, that dang scientific format is back.

Does anyone have any idea of how to work around this? Once I have successfully gotten the numbers to display as the long-chain number, how can I get them to "stick" so that they don't revert back to scientific format when I reopen the file?

Thanks so much for your help!

I use Excel 2000 (9.0.2720)

In range A1:D10, I have entered the figures in actuals (e.g. 34532642.45,
78945624.89 etc.). How can I convert those figures in Lakhs / Thousands /
Crores? Before converting, Can Excel 2000 prompt me for conversion in Lacs /
Thousands / Crores?

Hello,

As the title goes this is as simple as it gets. The macro worked good when I was using excel 2003 but now that I have 2007 everything works for except the resizing (Picture.Width & Picture. Height).

Code:

Sub AddImage()
Dim strPath As String
Dim strFile As String
Dim Picture As Object
Dim Response As String
Dim C As Range
strPath = "C:\\Photos\"

For Each C In Range("A1", Range("A65536").End(xlUp))
    If C  0 Then
        With C.Offset(0, 1)
            Set Picture = Nothing
            On Error Resume Next
            Set Picture = Sheets("Raw Pix").Pictures.Insert(strPath & C.Value & ".jpg")
            Picture.Top = .Top
            Picture.Left = .Left
            Picture.LockAspectRatio = msoTrue
            Picture.Width = 157
            Picture.Height = 138

    End With
    End If

NextC:
Next C
End Sub

I have tried to record some macros while I am resizing the pictures but to no avail the macros are blank.

Please help

Thanks!

I have an excel form, I want my users to be able to open the form, fill in appropriate data, then click the save button. When the button is clicked, the data in the form should be saved to a new file and then the original form should be reset (clear all values) for a new set of data entry. When the data is saved, I want the new excel sheet to be saved to a location specified within the macro so the user doesn't have any options and I want the title of the new file to be the value of one of the cells.

I'm new to macros and would appreciate any help this board can offer. Thanks...

I have an Excel workbook that was created by a former coworker. It includes a macro that, among other things, displays a message box about the 2008 file. The macro runs as soon as the file is opened. I'd like to access that macro to correct the date to 2011 and see what else, if anything, it's doing for me (it doesn't appear to do much). I can find references to creating macros to hide and unhide rows/columns and I found ways to delete all macros in a workbook, but I cannot find anything about unhiding a macro without knowing its name.

Does anyone know of a way to unhide this macro?

Thanks!

i've been trying to figure this out on my own but seem to be hitting road blocks.

i have a column of numbers that we extracted from a database as whole numbers. for instance, 30 should be .30 and 100 should be 1.00. when i try to increase or decrease the decimal point it doesn't allow me to convert it to those positions.

would any one have a tip of how i can easily convert this? there are over 2000 entries in my excel spreadsheet so to do it manually would take a lot of time/effort.

thank you!

I have a VBMacro Excel file loaded on a Server that numerous people access. A Macro in this file creates a Copy of a specific Sheet within the Active Workbook and I want to Save it to the individual's Desktop.

How do I find out what the current User's desktop folder path is each time the Marco is run by a different User?

Example User's path: 'C:\Documents and Settings\jfarc\Desktop'

Where 'jfarc' is the name of the current User which, will of course change with every different User that runs the Macro.

Also, is there a way to pull out of Excel what is the current User's 'Options | General | Default File Location' entry? Which may differ from the above directory.

I am familiar with and use the following coding for Opening/Saving files to the current directory of the opened workbook, but it only gives the path of the existing Excel workbook and not the current User's Directory Path:

Dim wbThis As Workbook
Set wbThis = ThisWorkbook
ChDir wbThis.Path

Is there a formula for converting hours & minutes to fractions.

I have an excel 2007 file sitting in a shared network folder. I only want one user to be able to make changes at a time (any other users would get a read-only). For some reason it currently does not do this, and I have multiple users with the same doc open. I'm concerned that changes will get over-written when 2 people are saving their changes. Can anyone help me with the settings for this.

Hi all,

I've had a long search through your pages to see if this question has been answered before but having browsed through about 50 pages worth of threads I couldn't see anything, but if I am repeating prior information I do apologise.

I've written a macro that is relatively simple. It just takes some information in one format, rearranges it, adds some formatting and performs some calculations. Nothing incredibly fancy but it works fine on my computer.

Now, I need to share this macro with some other people, so basically I've just sent that excel file on to the people that need to use it. Should be fine and in most cases it is, however there is one user who although they can open the file, can't seem to get the macro to run properly.

It seems to get a small way through the macro but then stop with no error messages or any sign that it hasn't completed properly.

I have checked Macro Security level and that is the same as mine, Tools - Add-Ins is the same, In Visual Basic, Tools - References is the same as mine. It is the same Operating system and the same version of Excel.

I have even signed into this person's computer as myself (it's a big company network thing) and tried to run the macro and it works fine, so there is nothing wrong with the hardware.

I've googled and searched and tried everything I can think of but I'm no closer to solving this problem, so if anyone has read through this wall of text and can come up with a possible solution, that would be greatly appreciated to save me from tearing ALL my hair out!

Thanks very much for your time.

i want to create two buttons within a workbook that adds (+1) to a value in a cell and one that subtracts (-1) the value in the same cell, i have been told that macros do this but i do not know enough knowledge about macros to configure it.

can anyone help me please

Hello,

I have a number of different files that I often need to run a macro on. In order for me to do it on the 75-100 files I have at any given time, I need to open one, run the macro, close and save, then open the next one.

Is it possible to write a macro that will start with the first file in a folder, open it and update links, run a macro, save and close, and open the next file in the folder until it has open all the files in the folder.

I have experience with creating macros that reference different workbooks, but not sure how to go about opening files with different filenames (without referencing the exact filename).

I'd like to be able to have basic code for opening, saving and closing, opening next file, saving and closing, etc. and input the macro I'd need to run in each file in the appropriate location. Is this possible? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Jason

Dear Sirs,

Am in need for this solution very badly and what could be a better place than excelforum !

I have an MS Excel File (2007 version) sample file attached, which has name, designation, blood group and so on. The last column is for hyperlinking photographs of individuals.

In the same folder where I have saved this excel file, are lying photographs of individuals. While scanning the photographs, I have saved them serially i.e. 1,2,3 and so on.

In the Excel file, in last column, I have given the respective serial numbers. In order to hyperlink one has to select that particular Cell, press Ctrl K and you automatically go to the folder containing individual photographs, you select that photo and OK.

Problem :

I have to do this hyperlinking one by one and if there 1000 photos, lot of time is wasted.

Solution Needed :

Just in case of excel formula, which we copy and paste, Can I get a command by virtue of which the column titled Photo or column next to it gets automatically Hyperlinked to respective photo WHEN I copy and paste such command to all cells in that column.

Thanks a million and warm regards ::: Jack

I was able to convert start date and and end date to the number of days

Hey there,

I have been tasked with introducing userforms into an excel sheet and tbh I'm quite amazed that excel has this capability of adding userforms to excel sheets.

Anyway, I have 2 columns of data in an excel sheet and I wish to add this to a userform so that the userform displays the 2 columns beside each other with headings, like a table. The user should then be able to select a particular row and insert it into the specified cell.

I would also like the user to select a row on the table and then be able to bring up another table depending on the row selected...basically so that the user can draw deeper into the information that they require.

I have an example excel sheet where I have 2 sheets. One sheet is the user entry sheet called User Entry Screen. the next sheet is the tables sheet where my tables are held. Once the user selects the cell shown in the example sheet, it should then bring up the user form. the user then, depending on which item clicked, then gets shown the next window with a table and info on it. then user should then be able to select an item and the cells on the user entry screen would then get populated.

Personally I think this is a really tricky challenge and any help with doing this would be extremely appreciated.

I'll post up further comments as I am trying to work my way through it!

Thanks,

Jag

I'm having a problem in a workbook with several ActiveX command buttons. I had been using the form control buttons to run macros, but the boss wanted each button to have it's own, different color. So I removed the form control buttons and created new ActiveX command buttons. I got into the button properties and set the background colors. I added the _Click code to run the macros when the user clicked the buttons.

All of the buttons were working fine. Then I saved and closed the workbook and went to lunch. Now when I open the workbook, the buttons don't work! When I click them nothing happens. They appear frozen. They don't even seem to click. No error message. Nothing.

If I right-click the button in Design Mode and select Properties, I get sheet properties not the button properties. I can't seem to locate the command button properties any longer. I still see the button name "cmdButtonGetInfo" and "=EMBED("Forms.CommandButton.1","") in the name box and formula bar. The odd thing is if I create a new button it works fine until I save and close the file. When I reopen the file none of the buttons work.

It's like the buttons are being disabled when I close or open the file. Any suggestions?

We have a number of Excel users in our office who cannot copy and paste
between Excel workbooks. They can copy and paste between worksheets. When
you highlight the section to copy and then go to the new workbook both the
paste
and paste special are "grayed out". This is true whether you right-click the
mouse, go to the edit menu, or use control keys. This occurs with any data
type and the most simple workbooks. I have seen some suggestions here but
none have worked for this particular problem. I have reset the menus and
renamed the .xlb files and neither helps. You can open the clipboard and the
paste will work, but there is no paste special option. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Posted this on the Ozgrid forums, but haven't gotten any help yet, so I thought I'd try here too!

I've been having a strange problem lately. I have a fairly lengthy macro that works perfectly most of the time. Occasionally it will run as expected but as soon as the macro ends, excel becomes unresponsive to mouse-clicks. When I click anywhere (trying to select a cell, or an excel menu item...clicking anywhere in excel) I'll get the a 'ding' system sound and nothing will happen. BUT, if I use the keyboard arrow keys, I can see that the active cell selection moves accordingly. Then it gets really strange - when I have a cell highlighted and press any key to input text, it gets duplicated. So if I press "s' it will input "ss" into the cell, and then when I press enter it will auto-move to the next cell down, but nothing ends up getting saved into the previous cell.

I don't understand what's going on at all. I can't think of anything in my macro that would have these kinds of effects. I've made sure that screenupdating is turned back on at the end of every procedure. If I go into the VBE, I can manually run procedures and they all work fine. The only way I've been able to get back to normal is by force closing excel altogether and re-opening. Any ideas?

______________________

Still having trouble, and the same thing is happening with this workbook on two different computers, so I don't think it's a hardware, or OS specific issue. When it gets locked up like this, I can still do anything in the VBE (edits cells, run macros, etc.) with no problems. If I'm in the excel window, I can click alt on the keyboard and the shortcut keys for the menu come up, but I can't go deeper than that by clicking the letter shortcuts, they do nothing. If I use the delete key to delete the contents of a cell, then it gets deleted. But if I type anything else (numbers, letters, or symbols) then it types 2 instances of the key every time, yet when I hit enter, nothing changes in the cell. I also can't really bring focus to the excel window if something else (ie. the VBE) is on top of it, clicking into the excel window just gives the little system 'ding' sound and nothing happens.

If I hit the save button in the VBE (since I can't click anything in the excel window), then it seems to snap out of it and go back to normal. I tried searching for anything simmilar to this and can't find anything...

Any help would be much appreciated. This is driving me nuts!

I have excel sheets that cross link with each other. I've just migrated to Office 2007. When I open my excel sheet I always get the question at the bottom of the tool bar Security Warning Data connections have been disabled. And then I have to click on option and enable content.

My question is, how do I always enable the content?

Thanx
