Hi,
I have a large table of data and I am trying to remove the duplicates in a column. I am using Data>Remove Duplicates

This is working fine except that in every case it leave one duplicate pair behind. It deletes the rows containing the duplicates and then below the empty rows there is one row of data containing a one part of a duplicate.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

It's annoying i have to manually remove one row to get rid of all the dupes.

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
I am having the exact same problem. Remove Duplicates sometimes leaves the very last row, as if it is fixed in place.

For example I have 5,202 rows of data including a header row. I remove dupes in column 2, it gets 3,259 leaving 1,941 in Rows 2 to 1942. Then empty rows down to 5,202 where I have the one dupe it did not catch.

I use remove duplicates very frequently, not sure why this started to happen lately ... tried with and without the header, tried with multiple columns, etc. Any known solutions?

write a macro for it!!

Yeah, that's sort of missing the point I guess. I do not feel the need to write a macro to catch the one remaining dupe. I can resort and then run remove duplicates a second time to get it.

The point would be to understand why the menu item is not working as expected.
