formatting large amount of text in a cell

I'm using Excel to track audit findings and am having trouble with a few cells. I'm using Excel rather than Word so that I can filter the findings. There is a large amount of text in the cells (1900+ characters) and it uses 18 lines of the formula bar. I've started a new line in the cell by using Alt+Enter several times as well.

Here's my problem: I have wrap text turned on but only the first 12 lines wrap. I'm using Excel 2003, but when the same file is viewed in Excel 2007, it displays perfectly. Any ideas?

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Ideas in order of priority:

1) Use Word. Learn how Word can provide filtering capability, too. Word is inherently designed to manage, display, manipulate text in ways Excel can only dream about.

2) Use Excel 2007 since it has greater display capability

3) Expand the columns in Excel 2003 so you need fewer rows.

Well, option 2 (Use Excel 2007) isn't an option since I'm limited to what my company decides to give me and I have to be able to share the document with others who may have different versions of Excel. And expanding the column width doesn't change anything.

Unless anyone else has an idea, I guess I'll have to use tables in Word.

I this just a limitation of earlier versions of Excel?

Hi Tina
Looking at the cell limitations in Excel help comes up with:
Code:
Length of cell contents (text) 32,767 characters.
Only 1,024 display in a cell; all 32,767 display in the formula bar.

So it looks like you may be exceeding the visible limit.

Michael,

Upon further investigation, the problem does begin arolund the 1024 character mark.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the problem then !
If you input "specifications" into Excel help, it will provide all the worksheet, cell, etc limitations.
