Shared Network Workbook is Slow open, Saving, and Closing.

I have a network file the "needs" to be shared, however, it takes at least 30-45 seconds to open and be ready to input on when accessed and almost the same to save, and then another 30 seconds just to get it closed.

I have taken the same file off of shared mode, and it will open in seconds and be ready to input right away. Because the workbook grows month-by-month it takes a few seconds to save it, but not hardly noticable.

Users of excel 2003 are having less trouble than those using excel 2007.

    any thoughts on this?

once taken out of shared then put back as shared. and before anyone else access it how long does that take?,trouble with shared files is they bloat, by saving everyones view, then there are those who havent closed it properly and end up being in the users list more than once. only solution is to regularly unshare/share workbook.

let me make sure i understand this correctly, besides the data changes, personal preferences are registered in the file as well and these are loaded and/or sifted though with each opening of the file.

Therefore, if i open it and adjust the zoom or font size, it rememebers that?

    Thanks
