row separation in text file import

    Hi everyone,
I have imported a tab delimited text file into excel. One of the columns consists of a string of text - a comment section. Within this column, there are periods and for some reason it seems that Excel is treating these periods as row separators. Does anyone know how I can prevent Excel from separating the text into rows?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

It may not be the periods causing the new line. There may be non-printable characters, for example, carriage return and/or line feed.

Might be worth posting a sample of the text file if it's not sensitive data.

    Regards

Re: row separation in text file import

Can they be omitted during import? Say I have a file that contains CR, when I open it in excel it normally splits the data in 2 rows (incorrectly).
I'm automating the import with VBA :

Is there a way to modify this query to not contain any non-printable characters ?

    Thanks in advance!!!
