Sort Data Without Formulas In Other Cells Changing?
Sort Data Without Formulas In Other Cells Changing? Excel

Can someone please help? I've got quite a lot of data that I want to sort
by the persons date of birth, but because I have cells with formula in it
(this works out the persons age) the sort function is changing the formulas
so the formulas no longer work becuase it changes the cell where it is
getting the data from. Does anyone have any ideas how this could be fixed??
Thanks!

On the attached timesheet there are columns IN, OUT, IN,OUT
The lunch time is worked out by deducting 'C8 from C9' and this works fine when all 'IN, OUT' cells are filled in but for some reason when just the first two cells are filled in it gives a 12 hour answer.
looking at cell 'C11 ' in the attached worksheet, I currently have the formula
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9C8)) The reason for this is to make it look tidy by having blank cells until a calculation is needed,, My problem is, If someone just comes in for the morning one day for instance 8am to 12 noon then they won't have lunch, but C11 will show 12:00
Can I put another formula into C11 to tell it not to deduct C8 from C9 until a time is put into C9.
The following is the sort of thing (many variations) I have been trying but because I'm hopeless at formulas I'm not having any success
Thanks
=IF(C13=0,","SUM(C9C8))OR,IF(C9,ISBLANK,"",SUM(C9C8)
My question is this I have a large spreadsheet with multiple columns of information. I want to sort it by a certain column. I know how to do this. My question is, once I'm done with my work I want to sort it back to the original "sort" but I'm not sure how they have it sorted. I've tried to figure out how they have it sorted but can't. Is there some way to go back to the original sort?
Thank you for your anticipated help.

A1 type in 10, A2 type in =A1 (calculated A2 to be 10)
B1 type in 5
And then click the copy on B1, and then click paste special on cell B2, the only options it gives me are text and unicode text and so no matter how I paste, cell b2 will always be populated with a value of 5. I cannot imagine a simpler copy and paste and no matter what I do I can't make this work.
All cells are formatted as general. It seems that all copy and pasting of formulas in my excel has been disabled. If I open any spreadsheet on my computer, I can't copy and paste formulas, but do the exact same thing on the exact same spreadsheet on any other computer and it works no problem.
Any help?
Is there a way to sort a list of names alphabetically and put any blank cells to the bottom rather than the top

I would like to have a new row automatically inserted with the formulas
updating to reference the cells in the new row. Let's say I start with 50
rows and after they are filled up, a new row is added automatically? How do I
do this?
Im trying to Sum the total of a number of cells using the following formula:
=SUM(F57,H57,J57,L57,P57,N57,D57,,R57,V57,T57,X57)
however some of those cells might be blanks as they are dependant on other data. The probelm im having is that when they are blank i am getting the the sum as 0. i know this isnt the case but dont know how to rectify my code.
I have formulas to add a number of days to a cell containing an entered date and display the resulting new date (ie. 03/01/2011 (c34)+11 = 03/12/2011)
I am seeking to leave resulting formula cell blank until a date is entered in the input cell. Currently when the input cell is empty the formula cell obviously displays 1/11/1900 using the above example.
What conditional format would achieve leaving the formula cell blank until date data in entered into the source cell?
Hopefully a simpler question for your experience level than mine.
I'm looking for help in building a formula which will sort numbers into different "buckets". My spreadsheet has a range of values in column B. These values can range anywhere from 100,000,000 to +10,000,000. I'd like to be able to sort them into the following buckets:
What is the origin of the extra plus sign at the beginning? To me it seems to be unproductive and is simply not needed. I have been using Excel for over 12 years and have never needed to enter any formulas like that. Does this originate back to a much older version of Excel where it was once needed?
Just curious.
Thanks.
Thank you,
Liz
How can I get Excel to sort these into alphabetical order ?
(From kyeoward@hotmail.com)
I am using Excel 2007 and suddenly I can no longer filter by color. The option is greyed out and so is the sort by Color option. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Thanks in advance.
sometimes, it takes 45 seconds to calc the whole sheet, other times, it takes 5 minutes. how do i clear the cache, or what do i have to do so that it calcs 45 seconds each time.
i don't want the application to think, it would be better if those 15,000 cells can be returned in a fractionofasecond. any ideas/tips? thanks.
I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.
Many thanks,
Andy
The question:
How can you prevent a cell's contents from overflowing into the next cell?
Of course, you can make the column wider or turn on text wrapping, but you might not want to. Each of those solutions can mess up the layout of your sheet. You may just want to truncate the value.
Some people have suggested putting a space in the next cell. This is unnecessary, a pain in the but, and will mess up any ISBLANK type formulas, among other things.
The solution:
Select the cells in question and turn on text wrapping (Format>Cells>Alignment>Wrap Text).
Now select the row(s) in question and manually set the row height, by right clicking the row number and selecting "Row Height". Check the height of an adjacent row for a good value.
Your cells will now not spill over either horizontally or vertically. They will simply truncate anything that doesn't fit.
Be careful now, because parts of your data may be hidden. This can cause its own set of problems if one or two digits are neatly hidden away. Think ahead if other people might be using this sheet, and not be expecting to have some data hidden.
Tested in Excel 2002
I would like a formula that would list all the items in row B that match the criteria in row A. the first cell with formula would list the first item, the second cell with the formula would list the next item, and so forth. Also, column B might have a duplicates that should be listed. Is this possible? I cannot manipulate the order of the original items (ie, filters) because this data is being used to derive other formulas.
statement? What I have in mind is something like this (stated simply): If
cells B9 or N9 or Z9 or AL9 are blank, do nothing, else color text in cell S4
red.
