I need to review a list of approximately 5000 cells. The cell contains either a number format something like .2345 or a number with a slash .071/.068
What I want to do seems simple but I don't know how to do it effectively:
If the cell does not contain a /, then I want to put the cell value into two cells d2 and e2.
If the number does contain a / , then I want to put the number to the left of the slash into the d2 cell and the number to the right of the slash into the e2 cell.
I have tried to do a select case statement to have it step through each scenario, but I cannot figure out how to find the / in the first case. After the slash is found, I am guessing the vba script should be similar to excel: LEFT($C2,FIND("/",$C2,1)-1) where C2 contains the original string.
I also have cases for when the cell contains "GA". Those are more complex because I have to step through what number is in front of the GA. Not difficult but definitely time consuming.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have been using excel for about 3 years. I have learned alot but still can not figure out how to make numbers add up in one box like a running total. Meaning, If I have a list and in the list is one cell for each item say like cell a1 is for a can of coke and cell a2 is for a car tire and so on,and i want to keep a running total by adding a number to cell a1 or a2 like say "3 i.e. 3 tires or cans of coke" and later that day i come back and need to add 2 more ......so i want to be able to just click on the cell a1 or a2 and enter the number 2 and the cell would add the number in it to the number im adding to it to show a result of 5 tires or whatever. How do I create an IF formula to find cells where the number of hours in one cell is more than the number of hours in another cell? eg one cell has 0.40 hrs and another has 02.25 hours - I want have an IF formula to say where 02.25hrs > 0.40 then type "FAILED" but I cant overcome the greater than problem on the hours which is giving me the wrong answer.

I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.

Is it possible to have numbers added to the same cell and have excel continue
to calculate the addition for me in that same cell......ex: I have the number
8 in cell d2 and I want to add the number 8 to that cell and have excel add

How do I calculate the number of batches per hour? Here's what I have so far:
Cell B5: start time: 4:15 formatted as 4:15:00 am
Cell B6: finish time: 6:15 formatted as 6:15:00 am
Cell B7: total time: 2:00 formula in cell: =TEXT(B6-B5,"h:mm")
Cell B8: total batches processed: 22 (this is entered manually)

We will be building 8 "widgets" a day.
We will work 10 hours a day.
There is a 20 minute break at 9:20 am.
Production shuts down for lunch 30 minutes for lunch at 12:30.
Production starts at 6:00 am.
Here is what I can do.
Production cycle time = (10*60)-30/8 or 71.25 minutes
If we start at 6:00 am, the first scheduled cycle completion time = TIME(6,0,0+71.25/1440)
My problem is when I am trying to use a logical "IF' statement to account for the 20 minute break or lunch and still calculate the end of each cycle time through the day I receive a number of error messages.
This is the formula I am trying to make work. I have the cell the formula is in, formatted with a "mm,ss" format.
=(IF(D4+G1/1440>9:20,(D4+G1)/24,(D4+G1+15)/1440))
I have included an attachment to help (a picture is worth a thousand words).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. If I use autosum to do this it just displays the number 0, obviously, since it is trying to add numbers...

Is there a way to enter a colon into a standard number to create a value that can be formatted into a 24 hour time value ?
eg a time is listed as 1345 with a general number format, and I want it returned as 13:45 witha custom format of hh:mm.
Other than creating a table and using a vlookup function, I am hoping there is a better way?

I'm quite experienced Excel user. I've never come across this problem but tinkering in every conceivable way within Excel settings and the solution has eluded me.
I have added a worksheet created elsewhere (it is a form I need printing, with the data coming from 2 sheets I have created from scratch) which has pre formatted cells for Date and Client Name etc.
When I try to reference the cell in this added sheet from my 2 sheets, instead of the result, it always displays the formula, not the result.
I have tried doing it from one of my sheets to reference to this new, and that displays the result and not formula. I can't imagine why it's doing this and I've never seen it happen before.
Formatting cells, giving cells names rather than the usually adequate of reference to the Cell Number doesn't change things. I wonder if I've picked up some legacy protection from the original form but can't see anywhere in the tools etc that's obvious.
There's about 50+ cells that need referencing and I got to get this done for work.
Please help me. This is my first need to post on a Excel Forum as I've always found help or answers from other peeps or internet but this one is making me scratch my head big time.

My problem is Tab no longer moves your active cell selection one to the right. It now moves to the last cell in your spreadsheet to the right (similar to CTRL+Arrow Key Right).
I seem to remember this being a simple setting you can change, but was unable to find it myself, or search the web for the way out. So my last result is asking the experts .
Do any of you know how to make it so Tab goes back to just moving one cell to the right again?

For example: Cell A1 has a time format (hh:mm) value of 04:00; which is the Start Time. I would like cell D1 to have a text format value of "04:00" (result is dependant upon what is entered in A1). I would duplicate the same formulas to reflect Stop Times in other cells.
My final result is to have another cell (F1) use the Concatenate formula to have the Start and Stop time shown in one cell as "04:00 - 12:30". The times would change based on the Time formated values entered into the Start and Stop time cells.

How do I work out the difference between two numbers - including negatives.
If the numbers are all positive, it's fine as it's simply a case of A - B = C which is your difference. However, that doesn't work if B is negative.
I need a formula that would give the following:
First Number / Second Number / Difference
1 / 5 / 4
1 / -5 / -6
-1 / 5 / 6
-1 / -5 / -4

Hoping someone can help me quickly as I'm pulling my hair out and have a deadline getting too close.
Been trailing the net and this board but can't work out how to do a simple variance.
How do I work out the difference between two numbers - including negatives.
If the numbers are all positive, it's fine as it's simply a case of A - B = C which is your difference. However, that doesn't work if B is negative.
I need a formula that would give the following:
First Number / Second Number / Difference
1 / 5 / 4
1 / -5 / -6
-1 / 5 / 6
-1 / -5 / -4
-5 / -1 / 4

Here's my formula... =SUM(S7)-T5
If that number is less than -100, I want it to show as blank.
Any help?
Right now, I'm trying to accomplish this by making a conditional format...meaning when my cell equals less than -100 I make the cell color and font the same (so it looks blank, but its not). When I print it, it still shows the negative value.

Hi there. I know it sound like a really simple thing but its really stumped me.
Instead of the y axis being on the left hand side, i wish for it to cut at 0,0. I have positive and negative values and I need it to be in the centre instead of on the left.
I have tried formatting both the axis and it would appear that the x axis already cuts the y axis in the right posistion so i need to format the x axis to make the y axis cut it at 0,0. I have already tried typing in 0 instead of 1 and it keeps saying it need to be number more than or equal to 1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
