Straight Line Depreciation Using The If Function (excel 03) |
Straight Line Depreciation Using The If Function (excel 03) - Excel |
|
However I find myself quite frazzled and here is my conundrum:
For school I have been trying to work out the Excel formula for straight line depreciation over a number of years. I will give the best description I can, here is my data and the cells it is in:
C61: 40,000 <-- This is the cost price/acquisition price of the item
C62: 5 000 <--- This is the residual value of the item i.e. its salvage value
C63: 5 <---- This is the expected life of the item in years
I am required to use the IF function to work out the straight line depreciation over the 5 years and then place it into a 10 year table. Obviously the item will depreciate at $7,000 a year and I did get my results to say this. However we must then be able to copy that formula into the 9 other years and have the depreciation stop after 5 years, as it has hit the salvage value. When I copied my formula it continued the depreciation for the full 10 years, not just the 5 years it was meant to (ie. If i had a list of cells from 1-10 which represented the Life Years of the item, after 5 years the formula should give me 0 amounts as the item has depreciated to $5,000 and would have been sold or disposed). After this I must then also test the formula by changing the expected years of the item, say from 5 to 6, and then it should give me an updated yearly depreciation for 6 years and then starts saying 0 after 6 years as it has reached its salvage value

This is what I have so far (hire date is in column B):
=((TODAY()-B4)/365)&" YEARS"
This function gives me a number with many decimal places.
I tried:
=ROUNDDOWN((TODAY()-B4)/365),0)&" YEARS"
It tells me I have too few arguments. Please help!
=DATEDIF(E21,TODAY(),"y")&" y "&DATEDIF(E21,TODAY(),"ym")&" m"

Say I had a line graph for 4 years and I wanted it to be a solid line for the first three and a dashed line for the last one, is that possible?
Many thanks for your help
Basically I have created a spreadsheet with several columns, but I have one column that lists the shirt size (YS, YM, YL, AS, AM, AL, XL, 2X, 3X) of each person. Is there a formula that I can create that will tabulate the number of sizes (i.e. AS=2, AM=7, etc.)?
In previous years I made a column for each size, and simply placed a "1" in the correct column, and had excel just add the 1's from each column. However, that takes more time and space. I was hoping to streamline it this time around.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, doug
The Geomean function doesn't work because it only uses positive numbers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is the origin of the extra plus sign at the beginning? To me it seems to be unproductive and is simply not needed. I have been using Excel for over 12 years and have never needed to enter any formulas like that. Does this originate back to a much older version of Excel where it was once needed?
Just curious.
Thanks.
I would like a formula that would list all the items in row B that match the criteria in row A. the first cell with formula would list the first item, the second cell with the formula would list the next item, and so forth. Also, column B might have a duplicates that should be listed. Is this possible? I cannot manipulate the order of the original items (ie, filters) because this data is being used to derive other formulas.
I have the below code which deletes all items from a listbox and my excel sheet which is the source for populating that listbox. I am using a option button style for my listbox and the selection style as single .i.e. you can select only one item at one go in the lisbox. I want my macro to delete the selected item from my worksheet .i.e. it's entire row so that it doesn't reflect in my lisbox any more. Below is my code :
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton2_Click() 'REMOVE SELECTION Dim I As Long With ListBox1 For I = .ListCount - 1 To 0 Step -1 If .Selected(I) Then .RemoveItem I Sheets("URL List").Rows(I + 2).EntireRow.Delete End If Next I End With End Sub
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.
I have been tasked with introducing userforms into an excel sheet and tbh I'm quite amazed that excel has this capability of adding userforms to excel sheets.
Anyway, I have 2 columns of data in an excel sheet and I wish to add this to a userform so that the userform displays the 2 columns beside each other with headings, like a table. The user should then be able to select a particular row and insert it into the specified cell.
I would also like the user to select a row on the table and then be able to bring up another table depending on the row selected...basically so that the user can draw deeper into the information that they require.
I have an example excel sheet where I have 2 sheets. One sheet is the user entry sheet called User Entry Screen. the next sheet is the tables sheet where my tables are held. Once the user selects the cell shown in the example sheet, it should then bring up the user form. the user then, depending on which item clicked, then gets shown the next window with a table and info on it. then user should then be able to select an item and the cells on the user entry screen would then get populated.
Personally I think this is a really tricky challenge and any help with doing this would be extremely appreciated.
I'll post up further comments as I am trying to work my way through it!
Thanks,
Jag
My question I believe is easily solvable for you cracks of excel.
I have a worksheet with a list of rows (item#, date, price, etc). In the last column of this list I can put an x for some of the items.
On another worksheet or sheet, I need to autoamtically have a list of the items in the first list above, that have an X in the last columns.
I created an example on a worksheet attached just for you to understand.
I apreciate all the help I can get.
Thank you so much.

I was thinking of trying a nested if/and statement but I haven't quite figured out how to do it. Basically I want to identify the two values where it switches from positive to negative and also indentify the values where it goes negative to positive, I can then fit a straight line between them to find a better approximation of the intercept (though it might not be necessary). Preferably I'd like it all one function as I'm not doing it in VBA (I might do later though, we'll see).
Can anyone suggest how I'd find these value or the x-intercept. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For instance,
A B
1 $32.17 8/17/08
2 $43.20 9/12/09
If I go in and update cell A1 to $33.98 today I would like cell B1 to read 2/16/10. But I don't want cell B2 to change.
Thanks
How do you turn off the blinking border around a cell that you are copying while still having it as an active cell? I don't want to have to press "esc" after everytime I copy an item.
Thanks,
Jeremy
A B
312 $1000
54 $1010
35 $1835
32 $1028
53 $1937
Im looking for a vlookup formula which will give me the maximum number from a list which contains multiple matches, i.e.
Lookup number 1 from column A, then give me the largest number from column B
example table:
A B
-----
1 5
2 2
1 11
3 2
4 5
the result would be 11
thanks all!
For example:
APPLE
bought 100 on FEB 1 @$1
bought 500 on FEB 1 @$1
bought 1000 on FEB 10 @$1
sold 300 on FEB 12 @$1.5
bought 100 on FEB 13 @$1.1
sold 100 on FEB 13 @$1.2
bought 1000 on FEB 14 @$1
bought 400 on FEB 15 @$1
sold 2000 on FEB 19 @$1.5
For this, the formula/function would know that:
=>for the 300 sold on FEB 12, 100 bought on FEB 1 is depleted and 200 of the 500 bought on FEB 1 is depleted.
=>for the 100 sold on FEB 13, the 100 bought on FEB 13 is depleted
=>for the 2000 sold on FEB 19, it knows that:
==>the 100 bought on FEB 1, the 200 of the 500 bought on FEB 1, and the 100 bought on FEB 13 is depleted so it can't consider those quantities
==>it would consider the remaining 300 of the 500 bought on FEB 1, 1000 bought on FEB 10, and 700 of the 1000 bought on FEB 14
The remaining quantities that are left would be the remaining 300 of the 1000 bought on Feb 14 and the 400 bought on FEB 15.
I would like to know for each sold transaction, which quantities at which prices on which day were sold.
Thanks in advance!
