hi,
how do i set up my charts so that the scale is automatically updated, as inputs change? for example, first inputs on the graph might require a scale up to $100,000.
as inputs change, the scale might be needed at say $500,000. i have to manually adjust the scale on each graph.
is there a way that i can set it up so that the scale will adjust dynamically on its own?
i remember finding a method here at mr excel, but can't find the thread that explains it...
any help is much appreciated, it is so tedious to have to adjust the scale on each graph every time we have a change in data....

Is there a way to have the Min and Max values adjusted dynamically for the Scale of the values being displayed ??
I know that I can use named ranges to display various sections of data -- month by month, or quarter by quarter, for example.
But when the value of these ranges vary greatly from section to section I end of having to manually go and adjust the Min and Max values of the chart scale.
For example, if I was looking at a graph of the S&P 500's prices last November, a Min and Max range of 750 to 1200 would be fine. But if I had a dynamic range established and scrolled over to view the S&P 500's prices for this past February, I would need a Min and Max range of around 650 to 850.
Is there a way to have these Min & Max values adjust automatically depending on the values being displayed ??

I have a graph with various information in it. One is a line graph that tracks hours used in that department per month. The problem is that when it gets to the last month, and there is not yet data for future months, the line goes down to Zero (leavin this big diagonal line that makes the data look funny). I need this line to stop on the last month there is data for. (I do not manually enter the data, it is a formula that I do not wish to delete.) I know I can manually move the data that the line is pulling to make it stop on the last month, but I have a graph for 36 different departments and that's a pain to have to manually adjust 36 graphs each month. Is there a way to tell the line to stop if there is no data? Thanks!!
I have a spreadsheet set up with an employees information, including the start date. After each year that the employee is working, he gets bumped up on the pay scale. For this reason, I only need to know how many years the employee has been working, rounded down to the nearest year.
This is what I have so far (hire date is in column B):
=((TODAY()-B4)/365)&" YEARS"
This function gives me a number with many decimal places.
I tried:
=ROUNDDOWN((TODAY()-B4)/365),0)&" YEARS"
It tells me I have too few arguments. Please help!

I am copying charts to display the same information for different regions. When I work on the copied region, I find it a cumbersome task to go through each charts source data and change the cell references to the different region. Essentially I am doing a trending analysis for each region, with a region having its own sheet with 5 charts per sheet. What I have done is copy the original sheet and am updating the sheet for another regions source data by going to the source data. The source data is all in the same row/column format, but each regions source data has its own sheet. Is there a more automatic way to do this? Perhaps a way to update all 5 charts references at the same time.

This may be less of an Excel question than a general data display question, but I'll try here.
I have 3 variables that I'm charting. I have one on the primary axis and it's values are in the billions. I have one on the secondary axis and it's a percentage. I need to display a 3rd who's value is in the millions. If I put it on the primary axis, you cannot see modest changes.
Is there a tricky way to get all three on one graph? I know I could split on two graphs, so that's my backup plan.

I am trying to automatically capture and record the date of a cell's last change in value (date stamp). I have an item price list and if a particular cell gets updated I want to automatically record the date of change of that cell. I realize that after I change cell A1 I could tab to cell B1 and enter Ctrl+; but if I have a hundred new prices to enter I don't want to do that (plus me or the data entry person might forget).
For instance,

1 $32.17 8/17/08
2 $43.20 9/12/09
If I go in and update cell A1 to $33.98 today I would like cell B1 to read 2/16/10. But I don't want cell B2 to change.

All on a sudden my mouse pointer in excel is not working properly. I cannot use my mouse to drag and fill, or to adjust the page break lines in the Page Break View mode. It always is in the shape of the white cross with black border and never changes it shape when pointed at the lower right edge of cells too. Now.......what to do in order to get out of this problem.

If on leave for less than 21 working days and on 3 or 4 shifts, shift allowance prorated as (Basic*15%)/21*(diff. btw 21 and no of days leave observed)

The formular I used in the attached worked but the only problem is that I had to sort by no. of shifts and adjust the formular first. I need A formular that does not require sorting. I tried to combine IF, AND, OR formulae but I got error. Please assist me sort this out. Thanks a bunch.

How do I get the colors to change automatically when I use a drop down list.
Per say here is what I am trying to do
If a certain "word" is used from the drop down list I want the background of
that cell to change its color to "green." And if later I change the "word" to
another from the drop down list, it will change it's color to a specified
color.
The drop down list that I use was created from cells that have the colors
already in the "word", but I do not know how to make the list show the colors
so it puts the word & color automatically in the drop down list to the cell
with the drop down (if that makes any sense).
If there is a way, please spell it out simple enough for me to understand,
as I don't know fully the capabilities of formulas or vba.

I have been banging my head trying to jar loose the formula to calculate man days where 1 equals 8 hours. I have one that was given to me by a coworker:
=INT(Q3/8)+(((Q3/8)-(INT(Q3/8)))*0.8)
That calculates man days from total hours. I need a formula that will total man days and return the man day answer. Example:
weekending 12/25 = 16.2 which is 16 man days and 2 hours

Total = 41 man days and 1 hour
I have also been asked if there was a way for a number to be entered into a spreadsheet and automatically put in order without a macro or "pushing a button".

I'm really hoping someone can help me with this...
I need to plot percentages over time in a line graph in excel. I don't want to have to do a percentage equation in the spreadsheet, I just want excel to take two sets of values and display the percentage in the chart. For example, I need B1 as a percentage of B2 for week 1, C1 as a percentage of C2 for week 2, etc....
Can someone please offer a suggestion for how to do this? I would really appreciate it.
Also, would it be possible to link data from other sheets in the workbook into one single chart?

Hi,
I am looking to change how an active cell is viewed. For instance when you are looking at your spreadsheet you can see the active cell has a thin black border around it. I would like to change the border to a thicker one and change the color to blue or red. I am trying to make it easier to the eye so when you are working on a large spreadsheet it is immediatly apparent where you are to avoid squinting.
If anyone can help me please let me know.

So I am at work workin on this report and I need a function that will make Excel automatically insert the today's date in a cell (let's say D90) when I fill the content of another cell (for example C90) and the that will be inserted will never change. I tried to use the =TODAY( ) function but it keeps updating the date in the cell to the current date if i reopen the worksheet 2 days later. I need the cell to keep in the cell the date of the day when I filled in the content of cell C90 and do not updated it every time i open the document to the actual date.. Thanks in advance!!

My problem is Tab no longer moves your active cell selection one to the right. It now moves to the last cell in your spreadsheet to the right (similar to CTRL+Arrow Key Right).
I seem to remember this being a simple setting you can change, but was unable to find it myself, or search the web for the way out. So my last result is asking the experts .
Do any of you know how to make it so Tab goes back to just moving one cell to the right again?
